baby sleep in carseat!!!!

my 13 weeks baby likes to be swayed and sleep in the carseat.
she still refuses to sleep in her cot or even on a mattress.
i think she`s too young to (cry it out)or even to (pick up put down)
my concern is:does the carseat hurt her back?
will she eventually have a curled back because she slept in the carseat while she was young?

dd2 wont sleep in a cot or moses basket, she sleeps in her rocking chair (it does lie flat), she's 9 weeks old, i would realy like her to sleep in a cot but she makes so much fuss yhat she wakes dd1 up so i have left her in the chair.

im happy that im not alone
when leen fall asleep i put her in her cot ad she wakes up screaming everytime.
in the beginning i used to pick her up and make her sleep again, but shell keep waking till morning! now i leave her in the carseat but its not flat!
i wonder if it will hurt her

dd slept like that a lot as an infant as she had reflux and our paediatrician recommended it shrugging off any concerns over her back. Mainly daytime , not overnight though. It has done her back no harm fortunately (she's a lively agile 4 yr old) but now there's all this concern over head shape and previously over breathing, seems you cannot win ! Have you tried elevating the head of her mattress with a rolled towel underneath or putting the feet at the head of the cot on a few books to replicate the angle or even one of those holders designed to stop rolling over which may make her more snug.

If dd's not sleeping in her chair she's sleeping on top of me, she does'nt seem to like lying flat on her back, most nights she wont sleep with her chair flat.

I started a thread about this a few weeks ago and someone said there baby slept in a car seat and it did'nt do them any harm.

my baby has reflux too.
but i did`t understand how does it help reflux?

yes marne.
i found lots of threads about sleeping like this for babies who are now healthy.
but i always feel guilty about it.

Elevating the head helps prevent the stomach contents going back up as it has to go against gravity. Sounds like that may be your dd's problem tbh (our dd was very hard to settle until we realised at 8 weeks old). Another m'netter has used an \link{http://www.naturesnest.co.uk/mbh.htm\Amby Hammock} for a refluxy baby.

LIZS

One of our best buys for dd (and we hadn't had one for ds) was a Chicco baby chair which had a straighter, softer back than the car seat but could be adjusted in angle from fairly flat to upright and was more open at the sides, so I was less concerned about overheating and her being so crumpled. She spent so much time in it and could be supported and still play under her gym.

My dd was very gassy when she was born. For the first 6 weeks the only way she slept was if my dh or I were carrying her. Then from 6 weeks-4 months the only way she would sleep was in her carseat or sleeping on me. So, basically she slept the whole night every night mainly in her carseat-there really wasn't any other option. She would sometimes have a nap in her bouncy chair as well. She is now a healthy and happy almost 4 year old - so hope that reassures you a bit.

hi there jomana
i spoke to a lady at a pram shop recently about the car seat - cos i was worried how long my boy spent in it and she said theyre just covering their backs on the recommendations bout not sleeping in it, so do try not to worry
im sure the human body is designed to withstand a lot of wear/tear/positions so try not to feel guilty

jomana · 11/05/2006 18:07

you dont know how much reassured and happy im now
i`m happy i dared to ask
i really was frightened that someone said it will hurt her and that i have to find oyher way to make her sleep.because ther is no other way!!!!
