Toddler hitting people

My lovely DS has been walking for about a month now(he's 21mo) and has started hitting people, mainly me. I tell him no, and give him a warning that he'll have timeout if he does it again. Generally, he responds well to timeout and I only have to do it once a day. However, should I be worried? When we go to play with other toddlers, they seem well behaved and he seems boisterous in comparison (at least, to the girls).
I feel I bit embarrassed by it, but I'm hoping that other mums will see me dealing with it and not judge me!

My DD2 hits, grabs, scratches and bites. She is 18m. DD1 never laid a finger on another child (in my memory anyway!) I hover over her at playgroups, & if she lashes out I say "NO" very firmly, & remove her from the situation. But she is pretty much non verbal & too young to understand any sort of time out. Really hoping she grows out of it soon!

posted too soon - I don't think you need to worry, it is pretty normal in my experience? I also feel embarrassed about my DD2 but I think as long as you are seen to act other carers understand. There was a 3 yo kid at playgroup the other day who bit & hit my DD2 over a 10 minute period when his mum left him totally unsupervised (she was in another room). I do judge that!

Hi I don't think you need to be worried although I have felt exactly the same sometimes! DS is now 3 and has gone through stages of doing this. As you say it always feels as though your child is the only one being naughty (and it feels strangely good to see other children misbehaving!!). Boys are definitely more boisterous anyway. Sounds like you are responding appropriately to me so try not to worry - it will settle down Smile.
