Erratic sleep

Hi all, my 5 months old sleep patterns have become a bit erratic, we put him down about 7 with a 7oz bottle if hungry baby milk and he has started waking every hour or so, he rolls onto front & wakes up in a flap, we're at a loss as what to do, we've tried some mashed rusk but it seems to go through him, we think he's teething as well so not helping, do we start on mashed banana or something or what

Food won't help him sleep! It may be a developmental or growth spurt. Is he hungry when he wakes?

By which I mean a bottle of course, not solids.

Please don't start on mashed banana, weaning really isn't recommended until 6 months, unless he's showing the signs of readiness mentioned here.

Weaning actually made both of mine sleep get worse for a while. Cramming them full of solids to help them sleep is a myth. At 5 months his gut is probably too immature for food, hence the rusks going straight throughout. If you wean you might end up with more night wakings because he'll get tummy ache.

If he's waking because he is rolling, its probably just a phase and he'll get used to it soon. If he's by you, can you put him back on his back and reassure?

Could it be teething too? If so, have you tried ibuprofen?

Could it be a developmental leap? Have you seen the wonder weeks website or read the book?

Rusks are just full of sugar and won't help him sleep. How long has he been waking up every hour? It could just be a growth spurt. A lot of babies change their sleep pattern around this age. Does he have a dummy?

Xposted. Agree, could he just be hungry? Do you offer a bottle if he wakes?

Have you seen the isis website? It's a good place to start if you are wanting to make changes.

I can recommend Sound Sleep by Sarah Woodhouse if you fancy a little more help.

He won't take to a dummy, we don't always feed him every time he sleep we just rock to sleep, I'll have a look at a few if the links you've suggested, thanks a lot
