Two Year Old Daughter - Potty Training Problems

Hello,
We've just started potty training our two year old daughter. She is currently getting very upset, she has done wee wee's on the potty and the only issue that has cropped up so far is that she becomes almost obsessed with staying on the potty and whilst we praise her for having done the wee she wont be persuaded off the potty and continues to stay on there. My worry has been she is almost putting too much pressure on herself to continually do wee wees when her body cant produce anymore. Has anyone else had a simular issue as it has been quite distressing seeing her get so upset about the potty and I am concerned that she is becoming obsessive about sitting on the potty all the time.
Any adviec would be appreciated
Philippa

Is she just 2 or nearer 3? How have you been handling it so far?
Have you possibly been overdoing the praise and encouragement? Looking back I had a tendency to hassle mine a bit asking if they needed a wee.
I would avoid any prompting, if this leads to accidents then maybe she is not quite ready? Any praise needs to be very low key, if at all. Could she be not quite sure what is expected, and this is making her anxious and leading to the sitting behaviour?

She is only just two, we werent originally intending to start potty training just yet but she attends nursery and saw some of the children in there going on the potty and it seemed to spiral from there. We have not been prompting her to go on the potty so much as she has been asking to go on the potty. She has recently been doing a wee, and is happy about it initially but the moment we have flushed away the wee and then begin to assist her with putting on her clothes again she starts crying and has a mini breakdown asking to go back on the potty. I am at a loss as to what to do about this as we had a nightmare this evening and she did a number of little wee's but wouldnt seem to get off. Perhaps with me hovering I am making it worse, I dont think we have been OTT with the praise however its almost like she is OTT about it as she says 'Look I done wee wee' and is fascinated about it. I am of course chuffed about her being able to go on ptty but also very concerned as I dont know how to avoid the extreme anxiety she has afterwards in trying to get her off the potty.

Perhaps ask one of the nursery staff for further advice, or your hv. I only have two dds and I had the opposite issue. (not wanting to sit on the potty!)
good luck. :)

You could try taking her into the loo with you and when you have finished say something like
"and now I have finished, I get up"!
That might help. Good luck!

DS was a bit like this, squeezing out teeny pees every 5 minutes. The novelty value wore off pretty quickly. I'd just let her run around with no trousers/pants on at home, empty potty when something's produced and otherwise let her get on with figuring it out for herself. Sounds like great progress for just 2 Smile
