How many times does 1 yr old breastfeed?

My son is about to turn 1 and he no longer seems interested in breastfeeding. Its only the morning the feed thats good. After that i used to feed him once in the late afternoon and once at night. But now he just sucks for a couple of minutes and then starts fooling around - playing with the nipple, biting.

I was planning to continue this 2-3 feeds per day till he turns 2 but with just one feed a day i m wondering if breastfeeding can continue at all? Will i stop making milk...or have i already stopped and thats why he doesnt try beyond a couple of minutes?

Also, i started cow's milk last month but he is not really interested. I keep offering and i m trying with banana flavouring etc but nothings worked till now. I was getting concerned about him not having enough milk but the doc says that if i can give him calcium in other forms then i shudnt worry much about milk. So i try to give him a cheese slice, yoghurt, rice pudding, cereal with milk - pretty much every day though. My target is usually 1 portion of calcium serving with at least 3 meals in a day (he eats 5-6 times a day...sometimes huge meals and sometimes grazing through the day)

I want to know of other 1 yr olds who r on less milk....how is it going? Any ideas to get him to drink milk? (He has never liked bottles and we gave up that battle when he was 4 months old. Its been straw cups and normal cups ever since he turned 6 months)

My dd fed anything between 3 times a day and every 5 flaming minutes when she was 12mo, depending on how she was feeling. Now she is almost 18mo and feeds between 1 and 4 times a day. When she only feeds once a day, it doesn't seem to cause any problems for my supply at all.

At the childminders she has a bit of cows milk, but usually no more than 2/3 of a little sippy cup, if that. She's not interested in it either, but I don't think it's a problem.

The only time i seem to get biting is when she's feeding. I give a firm "No, do NOT bite Mummy", put her down gently and give her something that she can bite.

Hope this helps a bit.

My ds is 14m and only feeds at bedtime. Doesn't seem to have affected my supply yet but I only cut out his in-the-night feeds about a month ago. (He hasn't been interested in daytime feeds for a good couple of months.)
He is dairy intolerant so for now drinks soya milk, has soya yogs etc. He also has calcium and vitamin supplements.
I've been trying to increase the amount of soya milk he drinks straight up (rather than on cereal etc) and although he wasn't that interested at first he finally drank quite a bit at morning snacktime today, in a nuby cup. He normally drinks from a sippy cup but at the moment quite likes the more sucky style cup (he was exc.BF too so hasn't had proper bottles).

dd is 12mo and feeds well every morning, a bit a once or twice in the day and sometimes at night, rarely for long sometimes not at all. I haven't got round to offering cows milk yet except out of my glass and she normally has some milk at breakfast and another portion of calcium during the day.

tbh I don't give it much thought as she will take what she needs from the bf so until we stop that I think all is well. it will take a lot to kill off your supply at this stage, maybe even months, so don't worry - its there!

hope that's some use.
