16 mo not waving, pointing, talking or walking

I have 16 mo b/g twins and am starting to get a bit concerned about DSs development in comparison to his sister and other babies their age

He has never waved at me (DD waves and says bye bye when I leave for work each morning, DS just ignores me!). He doesn't point - if he wants anything and can't get it himself he will just cry. He doesn't "high five". He babbles a lot but no distinct words (he has said mamama and dadada but not really in context).

Won't feed himself with a spoon - he will pick up finger foods though.

Crawled at 9 months, pulled to standing and cruising from 10 months but still not walking yet, has never taken a step unaided and collapses to his kness if I try to finger walk with him - in the past week he has just started to push his rideon car around the room.

Things he does do - turns pages in books, chases a ball around the room, makes lots of eye contact and always smiling, loves swimming and will hold on to the rail, loves being sung to and tickled, esp. little piggies song. He likes to play alone and pushes his sister away when she tries to cuddle/kiss him

I just feel he hasn't really developed in the last few months, whereas DD and the babies in my NCT group just seem light years ahead.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I be worried?

I don't know much about it but I didn't want you not to have a reply.
I would mention it to your health visitor but as a parent I'd be less concerned because he is doing the social stuff - eye contact, smiling and stuff like that.
Maybe he is more of an introvert and she is an extrovert?

He sounds very much like my DS at that age. He was not doing any of the things you mention or clapping or even feeding himself finger foods. Then, just before 18 months, over the space of 3 weeks or so, he began clapping, waving, walking & feeding himself!

He still doesn't point (except at pictures in books when I point to them) or talk much (has about 10 words at 23mo), so I think his speech is delayed, but I think that some babies are just more laid back. Does his sister tend to do a lot for him/not give him a chance to do things?

Definitely worth mentioning to HV, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone!

Thank you both for the reassurance! After a day intensive training with DH he can now do a high five
No, his sister doesn't run around after him, although she does grab/destroy anything he tries to play with. I think he gets a bit indimidated by her, shes like a whirlwind and he's more introverted. I think after talking to DH about it we are going to try and spend more quality one-on-one time with each of them rather than as a pair although its not easy to get the opportunity!

I hope it all goes well.
