Do I need to sterilise baby's toys?

Hi all, DS is 14wo and has started showing an interest in his toys, mainly the rattles & teethers. Should I be sterilising these items? I've got some Milton solution at home, I assume this is ok to use? Thanks x

Are they brand new or hand me downs?

If they are brand new I wouldn't bother personally.

If they have been stored for a long time or hand me downs a quick soak in a weak Milton solution won't do any harm.

You don't need to sterilise toys.

It's a good idea to keep them clean so a wash in hot soapy water or a cycle in the dishwasher now and then, but you only need to sterilise bottles used for milk.

If you think about all the things your baby's hands touch throughout the day you'll realise that he is ingesting bacteria constantly and he has an immune system designed to deal with them.

I would sterilise anything which has fallen on the ground outside or is second hand but that's about it.

They're hand-me-downs from DD5. I put them away for the next DC. Thanks ladies, I'll give them a wash and a quick soak in the Milton x

You don't actually need to sterilise anything as long as it has a good wash in hot soapy water or the dishwasher.

True, if you're sure they are getting properly clean.

Have never sterilised toys. Didn't even know you were supposed to. I think that's because you actually are NOT supposed to....

You are right Oblomov - unless you're going to feed your baby milk in them Smile
