I'm so happy to see this: I thought my ds was the only one. He's 2.3 and still has a bottle or two before bed and sometimes during the day if he's really tired. He finds it comforting. But he eats and sleeps really well and he uses cups for all other drinks. Is this ok?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 03/05/2006 12:02

Jess is 2 in July and has a bottle of milk before her nap in the morning and a bottle of milk before bed. I wouldnt dream of taking it away from her, she loves it, and its her cue its time to sleep!

patkica - same here. my son isn;t alone here.. hehehe.

one thing do worry me is: i noticed that he was eating the teat & have broke a few of them..

Tiger, mine too. But I think it's ok, as long as we can see what they're doing. Hope so anyway.

erhem Blush dd (4) still wants her milk from the bottle... I think it's a 'milk always came in a bottle' thing. Everything else she'll drink from a glass :)

fisil · 03/05/2006 13:29

ds1 only moved from bottle to cups for milk when he was 2 - because ds2 was on the way and I didn't want a hellish scene with me failing to breastfeed and moving onto bottle, in pain and feeling bad and then ds1 throwing a strop because he wanted the baby's bottle!

MrsBigD · 03/05/2006 13:32

fisil I didn't have that problem as ds got different bottles :)

Tommy · 03/05/2006 13:46

ditto MrsBGD! Blush My DS is 4 and still drinks his (has to be warm) milk from his Avent beaker with a spout.
Keep telling myself he won't take it on cub camp in 4 years time so I';m sure he'll get rid of it at some point Wink

Uwila · 03/05/2006 13:52

We took the bottle away from DD about a month before DS was born so as to avoid the jealousy. DD was 23 months when we did this. She loved her bottle, but made the transition okay. She still likes her sippy cup of warm milk at bed time.

I can't wait to get rid of bottles all together. But, as DS is not yet one I guess I'll have to wait a while.

Bozza · 03/05/2006 13:53

I got rid of the bottles at that point, uwila. It's up to you.

Nemo1977 · 03/05/2006 14:03

ds was around 14mmths when he gave up bottle..however it was only because I was pg so didntg want 2 `lots of bottles to get confused. He uses a tommee tippee cup now and is 2.6.

manitz · 03/05/2006 14:34

oh I'm so glad to see this. dd1 was 3 in feb and has a milk allergy so i let her continue to have milk in a bottle (3 a day -tho now cut down to morn/eve) like others have said, she loves it and it's her comforter.

she's virtually bitten through the teat so it goes down in minutes. don't give her juice in it or anyhting. Drinks out of open cup rest of time. she's aware it's slightly embarrassing and just for babies, which I think is a good thing.

tigeryuan · 03/05/2006 15:55

i think its good idea to tell my son that the bottle is for little baby.. hehee!

will see how he takes it... few people have mentioned here, there is no rush! so, i'll take it easy!!!

My ds drunk out of a bottle for his morning and evening milk until he was around 2.5yrs when he transitioned to milk just in the morning-he had it from noraml cup then.Everything else he had drunk in a normal open cup since 18mths.
dd1 was my difficult one who loved her bottles. She drunk her milk in a bottle morning and night until her third birthday.I then bough her her own special cup with a straw. She still drinks out of that for her milk and she is 4yrs3mths.She has drunk out of open cups since 2yrs old
dd2 ditched the bottles of her own accord at 13mths.She then had the milk and her water in a cup with spout. She has had water/juice in a open cup since she was 18mths.She still has her 'spout cup' for her morning/eve milk and she is 2yrs2mths.I think I will try and get her to drink without the spout in the summer

manitz · 05/05/2006 08:32

what do you do when they are in bed? like someone else was saying my dd's bottles are their comforters. I also will give them water in bed in a bottle at night cos it's less likely to spill. can't have a normal cup at night at hte mo imo.

fsmail · 05/05/2006 18:34

My DS was about three when he gave up a bottle of his own accord, my DD was then about 14 months as well and she settles really without. It does depend on the child. I thought DS would never give up but then he just said bottles are for babies.
