Does your DD have access to all her toys all of the time? If so, you could try putting some away and only leaving out a small selection at any one time - less to choose from, more exciting when the other toys come back for a while, etc. That works for some children.

What about outdoor/sport type activities?

Drawing and reading are both excellent activities to be doing too though and should definitely be encouraged.

CL... with hulababy:) my kids 'suffer' from toy overload too :) I get dd (4) to choose what she wants to play with. Though she usually wants to draw, paint, do arts & crafts :) or go outside with her bike

Thanks for responses. It does seem that the drawing/painting etc is the norm and not going to worry to much about constantly buying more toys in the hope she will play with something
! Think i am definately guilty of overloading both ds (20 months) and dd (4) with toys and they dont play with much at all in the end!

Mine is nearly 3 and is pretty much always drawing or colouring - we have had DS's bouncy chair on her toybox in the lounge for 2 weeks now, and she's not mentioned wanting to get to the toys! Shock Just draws or plays with puzzles.

It seems to be the norm nowadays to have a dedicated playroom for children as well - i had a small box behind the sofa when i was little and didnt do me any harm! recently moved house and refused to set up another playroom scenario so have a "family room" that has both kids stuff in, as well as looking reasonably presentable for guests with children. Have about 20 boxes of still packed toys in garage that have not been missed at all! Even 20 month old ds doesnt seem that bothered about beign surrounded by toys as my dd was at his age! oh and less to clean and tidy as cant seem to get rid of my constant quest to have a stylist tidy home! (ha!)
