8 year old ds suddenly wetting the bed

Ds2 will be 9 in April and has been dry since he was very young.

He's wet the bed twice this week out of nowhere and is really upset about it. Sad

The first time he'd had a hot chocolate in the evening which was a bit unusual, but last night he had nothing to drink before going to bed - both times it's happened first thing in the morning. It's like suddenly he can't get to the loo in time in the morning.

Any advice? Nothing stressful is going on at the moment at school or home - he's his usual happy self but obviously very upset that this has started to happen.

How many times do we wait before going to the GP - or is this a hormone/growing up thing that can happen at this age? We've got an 11 year old ds but no bed wetting experience with him at all.

Any advice gratefully received as I want to reassure him that it's ok and will stop happening!

I would take him to the GP asap (not because it is urgent but something has changed for it to start happening and there is no need for him to get more upset) he could well have some sort of urine infection which is easily detectable (dip stick into urine/sending off a culture)

Is he well otherwise?

Would be worth checking that he hasn't got an infection. Does his wee smell unpleasant and has he got any pain or discomfort when peeing? Just take a sample to the surgery and ask them to dip test it.
Is he worried about anything at school or home?
Would cut the fluids after about 6pm and make sure he goes before he goes to bed.
Has he slept in later? Maybe he is tired and hasn't woken in time.
Hope you get it sorted. Would see the GP if it keeps happening.

Thanks - I think that's probably a good idea. Although talking just now to dp, we realised that because dp had a migraine last night and I was out, ds's put themselves to bed for the first time and it's likely ds2 forgot to do a wee before going to bed! I'll talk to him later but if this is what happened I'm very relieved as at least there's a reason. If not, then a urine test is a good idea.
