Sorry, on phone.

My ds is 5 and has been having speech therapy for about 6 months on and off through Nhs. An independent SALT has recommended the use of Talking Tools which I am very cynical about but I would love to hear other people's experiences. Tia

Never heard of them, what are they? Anything that helps is great in my opinion.( off to Google Talking Tools).

They seem to be muscle building type appliances with the implication that sometimes speech is delayed as children cannot physically move their mouth muscles to create the right sounds.

Just seems a bit new to me and would have preferred some voice of experience!

Ds (2.7) has the honey bear drinking bottle from the talking tools range. He has very poor oro motor skills, has no speech or babbling, struggles to chew food properly, and has to have his drinks thickened. He has seen a SALT since he was 10 months old, and a specialist feeding SALT recommended the bottle. I did ask our SALT about the other stuff in the talk tools catalogue and she said in her opinion most the things could be improvised and cheaper alternatives could be found (they are very expensive). So we do try to do stuff with blowers, whistles, etc (although ds has yet to 'get' blowing!

You may find people who have had more experience of them on the SN boardSmile
