14 week old dd not right- how to tell if she's ill

Hi there,
I suspect that my dd has got one of these nasty bugs, but obviously she cant let us know how she's feeling. She's just not right and very out of character, crying in a different way than usual, very clingy, sticky, and warm or cold. I've had one of these nasty bugs recently, and I know how they knock you for six, so do you reckon there is a chance she may have picked it up?

She usually has a very very good appetite, but is refusing some bottles, or only taking an ounce here and there, and seems sleepier than usual- what should I do, and how can I tell if she has got a bug???? We've given her calpol, but feel pretty helpless otherwise :-(
Any suggestions would be so much appreciated. Xxx

Hello, I just started a thread re: my dd (4 months), who is generally out of sorts, sleeping a lot and grumpy. I took her to the dr to rule out any illness, which I think you should do if you can even if it just eases your mind, but it may just be a growth spurt which is making her fed up, or even teething? This can hurt their gums and make bottles difficult for them.
I'm learning that you can never really know what's wrong, but take her to the GP if you're worried. You have my sympathy, it is horrible when they can't tell you what hurts, and scary.

If you have any concerns, call NHS Direct now and let them direct you as to what to do (they are pretty cautious). It is probably nothing, just a bug but until you can trust your judgement, call NHS Direct and be on the safe side.

Thanks biblio :-)
It could be teething or growth spurt- she keeps chewing on her little fists a lot, so it could be teething, or a growth spurt. It just makes u worry doesn't it? If it carries on I'll call NHS direct and go to docs- hate it when they're not right and you don't know why- all you want to do is make everything ok,

Hope she feels better soon. I used to feel silly going to the drs when nothing was wrong with her but they expect to see tiny babies a lot and you need to be safe rather than sorry! It's worth it if it makes you feel better.

That's very true. Reassurance is better than worry :-) hope your little one feels better too Envy

i would seek medical advice if she is not taking much milk. babies can dehydrate very quickly.
