How old was your DC when they started to play with (instead of alongside) other kids?

Not much to add to the title, really - just wondering how old your DC was when (s)he started playing with others. The kid will happily play alongside others, and says she likes them and calls them friends, but pre-school say she doesn't play with them, and seem to think this is an issue. She's only 3.7 though, so I'd have thought that to be perfectly normal?

Just after your experiences. She's an only one, and didn't go to any child-care before pre-school, and so until she started she didn't see large groups of other children.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not concerned about her at all really - from what we see of her she is sociable. She even makes up her own jokes that are actually quite good, and says things just to get a laugh (for example when we were looking for one of her toys and having no joy she said "we might even find that voucher" with a big grin - referring to a coupon I had lost weeks earlier - it never did turn up)

I think the 'issue' is at PS - perhaps she doesn't feel that she knows the kids that well, or just isn't that interested in kids her own age.

dd1 was in reception before she got the hang of this
as far as we know she is NT, just a little socially awkward like her mother

Should have added on last post - was surprised PC had flagged it, hence the thread. Seems they were perhaps right to do so based on what they see, though.

Ds1 took a long time to, it's just the way he plays. Ds2 is 3 and has been doing it for a while but that's more his style of playing. He knew a couple of kids at nursery before he started and had been playing with his big brother for a while so was further ahead than ds1 was at that age with no older siblings or proper friends.

Dd is 2.6 and plays with other children in turn taking with games or swapping toys, however she has been in all day nursery from 6months. She has a speech delay so signs rather than talks but has particular friends and unfortunately one arch enemy!

The children who are at nursery term time or only a few days a week she doesn't play with so much. However nursery have flagged she is more sociable than some older children.

All children develop differently and your dd sounds like a delight!
