Action song suggestions

Peekabooooo · 14/02/2013 16:49

I have been advised by a HV that action songs are good for developing a LO's language and communication skills. We already do:
wheels on the bus
wind the bobbin up
if your happy and you know it
hokey cokey
dingle dangle scarecrow
twinkle twinkle little star
incy wincy spider
grand old duke of york

Can anyone suggest any others please?

The sticky kids CDs are great for action songs.

My kids love Twinkle Twinkle Chocolate Bar (My Dad drives a rusty car) sung to the same tune as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
3little monkeys jumping on the bed.
Miss.Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick.
I had a little turtle his name was Tiny Tim.
Tommy Thumb.

You should see if your local library does a rhymetime session you can get to. My DD loves them, and nearly all the songs are action songs. Even things like humpty dumpty, or rock a bye baby have some movement in them, even your child isn't doing much.

How old is your child? Is speech a problem?

RatOnnaStick · 14/02/2013 21:44

Peter Rabbit's got a fly upon his nose

Peekabooooo · 14/02/2013 22:03

Thanks everyone, they are great.

I'll make enquiries to see if there are any activities/groups in my area, thank you for the suggestion.

My dd is only just 2 and her speech is slowly progressing. It was a suggestion by a health visitor at her review and thought it worth doing.
Love singing and dancing with her too though, and especially love it when i'm laid in bed first thing on a morning or if I'm in another room and can hear her trying to sing them herself.

5 little men in a flying saucer flew round the earth one day
looked left and right but they didn't like the sight so 1 man flew away.
4 little men - etc etc

Mine loved that one.

The tweenies do a brilliant DVD - song time I think. It has loads of action songs. 10 fat sausages, copy me (fab), gonna build a house and more.

Row your boat is a good suggestion - you can add different animals
row down a river - see a polar bear - shiver
row down a stream - see a tall giraffe - don't forget to laugh
row to the shore - if you see a lion there - don't forget to roar
row to the lake - see a snake - don't forget to shake

5 cheeky monkies swinging through the trees
teasing mr alligator can't catch me
along came mr alligator quietly as can be when..................................
SNAP mr alligator can't catch me

You have got me off now

SweepTheHalls · 14/02/2013 22:05

tall shops and see the little bunny's ( although that one is mostly jumping!)

BabyRoger · 14/02/2013 22:06

YY to library rhyme time sessions. My 2 love them. Baby signing class is also great for action songs. I have done Tiny Talk with my two.

My DD is 21 months (today!) and her top favourites are:

Sleeping bunnies
Row your boat
Wind the bobbin
Zoom zoom zoom we're going to the moon

I'm sure there are videos on YouTube if you don't know the lyrics / tune / actions.

She also really likes one that she does at a local children's centre which goes "up and down, up and down, side to side, side to side, round and round and round again, here we go again, POP". Actually I think that is her all time top favourite Hmm. Especially if we do the actions with her legs as she is having her nappy changed. Hmm Smile

Wigeon · 14/02/2013 22:09

As well as rhyme time at the library, children's centres stay and play groups often have singing at the end.

doughnut44 · 14/02/2013 22:11

5 currant buns in a bakers shop, big and round with a cherry on the top
along came 'a name' with a penny one day
bought a currant bun and took it away
4 currant buns etc................................
You can extends on this and actually make buns and play with the pennies
