When did your DC start to tell you about their night time dreams?

And how much information do you actually get about them?

Little Beep is 3.5 years, he occasionally has nightmares (wakes up screaming and frightened and takes ages to settle) Over the past few months all he will tell me about his dreams are that "the leaves came off the trees", this is for happy dreams as well as sad.
I never get this response from him if I ask him any other questions (I say this because a/ I wonder if he understands the question and b/ he is not the most talkative little boy).
So I was wondering at what age children generally understand about dreams and can explain them to you?

My DD had a nightmare when she was about 2 I think, which involved me turning into a snail and being under the kitchen table. She was distraught and could not understand it was a dream, she thought it had really happened. In the end I had to promise not to do it again to console her - she is 5 now and still remembers the dream although knows now it wasn't real!
Not sure at what age she could tell the difference though.

That is so much detail for a two year old to give! Beep couldn't tell me that even now.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was just having the same dream, or variants of it, all the time. I did as a child but I think I must have been older

DD was an early talker and has always had a lot to say! She had the same dream several times over I think too - she spoke about it a lot of times. I think she must have seen something on TV to spark it off, she hated things changing shape/size in films or TV programmes - shows like Granpa in my pocket got turned off straight away.

yes TV has a lot to answer for. I'm stumped by "the leaves came off the trees" though
