My DS is 15 months & has only recently reached the point where he'll usually sit still long enough for me to read what's on the page but then he has to be the one to turn the pages! Learning to sit still, listen to & enjoy a story does take time. If it's stressful & he doesn't seem interested then try stopping it for a little while. My DS would happily sit on the floor & turn the pages of the book long before he showed any interest in being read to! Maybe it would help to give him books to play with at other times so he can explore the concept of a book & turning pages so he's not trying to do that at story-time.
If he'll happily be read to at other times then could you give him more time between finishing his bath & starting the bedtime routine? He might just need a bit of playtime to blow off steam before starting to calm down.

everything goes in his mouth, hes been like like since 3 months. he has soft toggle books for chewing but of more interest is the sky remote, my phone etc freaks me out germ wise. he has a fine line between being tired, over tired, hyper then tuned to the moon (which lasts hours) :)

I have read to my DC's from when they were young babies. I don't think the issue is about sitting down to read but of him being over tired at bedtime thus making him hyper.

I wouldn't worry about germs- it helps build their immune systems and you're not that germy are you? Wink

I would look out for the pre cues to tireness and do a quick bath then story bed etc... Half hour makes all the difference to a sleepy settled baby and a hyper but tired one.

I sympathise, my one year old is like this a lot, but I'm learning. We read the 'That's not my...' books which he loves to feel while I read. It keeps him settled. If he's getting ratty I stop and pop him in bed Smile

I think I'm still learning, DS sleep (or lack of it) and our routines are a whole other thread :(

I've even stopped pudding (give it at lunchtime) to shorten his dinner and get him in the bath sooner.
I'll have a look at those books, Amazon here I come.
DS at nursery now and is on his 3rd virus in 4 wks, our remote control is the least of my worries these days Shock

Aww Swivel it's hard work especially when they're ill, I think you have to go with the flow while they're ill. Getting a child to sleep is one thing, getting them to stay asleep is a pain too. I sympathise with that.

I'm reading the 'No cry sleep solution' which has hints about naps and meals and sorting a routine that suits the child as well as you, just have to keep thinking this too shall pass Smile

Oh yes, my NCSS is now dog eared but he's been ill on and off since I've bought it. This weekend is the start though, well as long as his cough goes by then. this too shall pass :)
