11 week old not interested in toys

She smiles, shrieks excitedly and makes eye contact with people but she has no interest in toys. Is this normal at her age? If I put her underneath her gym she gets upset and just wants to be picked up again.

Totally normal! At the moment, her bet toys are the adults in her life.

She might like it better if you get down with her and join in, but at less than 3 months, expecting her to play on her own is not really possible.

Congratulations on your lovely girl.

Weggiemum's right, she's only 11 weeks old. All she wants to do is look at your face and have a cuddle. She's getting to know you. Smile

Normal. A toy to them is watching a leaf move or staring at the light. They can barely control their own limbs at that age. Those gyms are a bit much imo, imagine all that brightly coloured shit waving around in front of you and you can't get away Grin.

Good luck.

Don't worry. At her age, she's more interested in faces. And cuddles. She's behaving perfectly normal.

Tbh, toys are a con for babies and toddlers. My 22 months is still not interested in toys. And she's not alone if you read the DOTD!

So once your LO graduated from your face and voice, she'll move on to the things you don't want her to play! Like your keys, your bags, your hairbrush, supermarket bags, the box the nappies come in, their socks, the shampoo bottles Grin

Totally normal, I agree. You can try shaking rattles etc at her but she'll be more interested in watching you and listening to you! Ds has started to bat and grab at toys (14 weeks) but would still far rather chat or giggle or just watch.

weegiemum · 04/02/2013 13:42

My toddlers all had the same fave toy:

A small pot full of clothes pegs and a wooden spoon.

A good bit cheaper than the iPhone, kindle fire and PS Vita we shelled out on for christmas now they're big!!

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 04/02/2013 13:52

Oh yes to the clothes pegs! DD had fun dropping them one by one through the gaps on our deck, before I found out and stopped her!

You can make home made rattles by putting rice, pasta, beans etc in milk and drink bottles. It might be a bit too young to give to a 11 weeks. But a face cloth would be just as fun.

My 8 week old used to cry and scream when I put her in the baby gym until a couple of weeks ago i decided to lay her down on the cosy blanket that I often cuddle her in and made sure the blanket was tucked up against her sides so that she felt supported. I also find that she enjoys the gym first thing in the morning as soon as she wakes and has had her bottle but find that she doesn't enjoy it during the day so much. I start by giving her her dummy until she spits it out and becomes interested in the flashing lights above. I find the baby gym is great as it gives me chance to get on and do a few house hold chores. I also find that she is in a better relaxed and playful mood after I have bathed her.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 04/02/2013 15:09

I used a bouncer chair and put DD next to where I do my chores. She just liked to watch me I think!

HecateWhoopass · 04/02/2013 15:16

They don't give a toss about toys at that age!

And for a lot longer!

My eldest's first christmas? I went ott with the toys and what did he do? Sit in a box and chew wrapping paper Grin

Don't worry about it. It's normal.
