What toy engages your 2-3 year old for more than 10 mins?

My DS is 2.5 years old. We have a house full of toys, but he loses interest in them after a while. I was just wondering what your toddler's favourite toys are? What do they play with independently the most?

Thank you to everyone for all of your input!

humblebumble - My DS also has a speech delay... Anyway, I've just put lots of his toys away. Hopefully, they'll seem more exciting when I get them out again!

My dd had a slight speech delay... She is now (v.nearly) 5, she had special intrests from a young age... Age 2 was toy story, so anything toy story would keep her interested (but only when the film was on in the background). Also toddler games on the IPhone. Monkey preschool lunchbox, when I grow up, tozzle and some others that I can't remember (she is into angry birds now).
I had the same problems with "mummy do it" (actually still do when it comes to writing, reading ect.)
Have you considered sensory toys with lights and sounds? I found they were great (still are, she will spend 15-20mins with a light up glitter bouncy ball I got her from poundworld!)

Good luck, I hope you manage to find something.

bags she can put things in.

Dolls and related stuff
etchasketch
some sucess with sister's innotab.

But actually she loves helping - she'll happily hang up the washing, put dishes away and so on. She doesn't really like the pretend kitchen, as it's not doing anything, and her complaints about the toy hoover which doesn't pick up dirt are truly distressed.

Angryknome & Newkins - Tried the dried pasta yesterday! Brilliant idea! Kept him entertained for about half an hour!

Wingdingdong - I'm with you with the play doh!

a box of old cars which belonged to his dad
a wooden train set
no1 though would be tractors and construction vehicles
When he was 18 months to 2.6 the Bob the Builder vehicles were favourites but now he is nearly 4 he likes die-cast diggers, harvesters, tractors etc.
