Hey my nearly 7 month old has had a streaming nose since Tuesday which has caused her to be bunged up and unable to breath through her nose that well especially for feeds.. She has developed a cough which happens when she tries to sniff or breath and suddenly can't through her nose.. Sounds phlymy..she is really happy during the day and sleeping reasonably ok at night but heavy snoring etc... Tonight she threw up heavily after her nighttime bottle projectile which she has never done before but she seemed fine..

So I just want to know if this sounds like a normal cold cough? Is there anything i should keep
A close eye on? I just worry as i haven't gone through this before... Thanks!!

As long as her temperature isn't excessively high and she's not unusually lethargic then it sounds fairly normal to me.

A couple of things that might help make her more comfortable at night are:
Slightly raise the head end of her mattress slightly by putting a folded towel under it
Put a spoonful of Vicks in boiling water and leave this on a shelf/changing mat in her room.

Hope she recovers soon.

My DD had a nasty cough/cold at around 8mo. She's never really had one before so was really worried. She had all the things you described but I ended up taking her to A & E one day - she woke up from a nap and was more upset than I've ever seen her and sounded like she had real trouble breathing (had a dr's apt for later that day but wanted to check she didn't have an infection or anything).

They were brilliant and the paediatric triage nurse checked her oxygen saturation, breathing rate etc- all was fine and they assured me it was just a bad cold.

They said to monitor her temp., make sure she remained alert (even if not her usual cheerful self) and didn't lose her appetite (although some sickness was also normal). We found a vapour rub suitable for babies (think it was a Boots one) and also the plug in menthol vaporisers were good at easing her breathig overnight.

So, yes, I'm sure she's fine but if you feel you need to get her checked out, don't hesitate. No one at the hospital made me feel stupid at taking in a baby with a cold!
