Early Waking

hi

I have twins who are 14 months and no matter what I try they never sleep past 5 - 5.30am. Now I know we are lucky as they do now (mostly!) sleep through the night. They are in bed by 7am and don't cry when we put them down and they settle themselves to sleep but without fail one will wake up at 5.30am which then wakes the other. I would have to get up anyway at 6.30am for work but that hour would make such a difference! Also, we're trying to get rid of the morning nap and just have 1 long midday nap but there's no way they can last as they get up so early. They seem tired again by 8am!

We have tried:

Blackout blinds
checking there's no particular noise/temperature change at 5.30
Putting them to bed later (even though they are so tired by 7!) - they still wake up at 5.30 but are just more tired all day.
Giving them food later
Tried to let them cry it out but they just cry and don't stop till 6.30 when we have to get up anyway!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm so fed up of having to go to bed at 9 to make sure I can function at 5!

Willow x

I have no helpful advice as I've been where you are and my DD is 2.10 and still an early riser. The only thing I can say of comfort is that she is much better now and has been known to sleep till 7 (woohoo!!) We go through phases now of early (current time is 5:44) and then a little more civilised which always feels like a lie-in!

I've just ordered a gro-clock which I've heard peopl rave about but your two are probably still too young for it.

Do you make being up early as boring as you can for them by not interacting with them or are they just happy to have each other?

They come into our room and we lie down with them for a bit while they shuffle about and fidget until 6.30!
