talking in the night

dd1 and dd2 share a room, through choice, normally sleep 8 till 5.30.
dd1 keeps having nightmares, has for a few years, worries over everything, she screams out and woke dd2 twice last night. dd1 then went to the toilet and left the door open and woke dd2 again. they then chatted/laughed/shrieked for almost 2 hours.

we told them to be quiet, said theyd be tired today, said the neighbours would be disturbed, they would not shut up.

all sleep solutions seem to be about putting them back in bed but they were in bed, just being bloody noisy.

they were very tired at 7.30 when woken up.

not sure whether this is a case of separating them, which they would both hate, which would be a major job and therefore permanent. or whether it was just naughty behaviour to be punished and hope its a one off.

the nightmares are regular and so are the toilet trips so dd2 is often woken.

any advice?

hi there. my 2 boys share a room and do this from time to time. if it's early enough that we haven't gone to bed yet, I sometimes move one into my bed and then move him back when he's asleep. i've also had to threaten a very early bedtime for the following night, and said that the length of time they mess about/chat for, they lose the following night. this once meant putting them to bed at 5.30, but carrying the threat through has been a great deterrent.

good luck!

thank you.
dd2 is 2 and almost ready for a bed so dp thinks we should separate them but the dds really want bunk beds and love sharing and i think they find comfort by the other one being there.
but when ill they wake each other.
i will try early bedtime but they were both so tired tonight they wanted to go to bed anyway.
