Getting rid of the dummy!

Hi my DD is 2 and I am planning to getting rid of her dummies at Easter, does anybody have any advice on how to do this please? She only has it at Bedtime and for her daytime nap. I tried putting the idea into her head the other night by saying that she is a big girl now and dummies are for babies like her cousin but she just got upset. Thanks Limy

Hi Limy, I am going to do exactly the same thing. DD was 2 on 27 Jan and I also keep talking about how she is a big girl now and only babies have dummies - she's not impressed. I think we will go with the dummy fairy idea but am dreading it as she loves the dummy. She has it for sleeps and it calms her immediately when she's upset.
Any advice welcome. She's quite a strong personality and very stubborn so its going to be a challenge

This is an issue that can engender a lot of views - so please don't be offended by mine. But I am firmly in the 'leave the dummy' camp. It's clearly working - you have a child that sleeps/is comforted. Why change that? They will stop using the dummy of their own free will in due course - for my DS it was just before 4 (and that seems that most common). But good luck with whatever you do!
