Not tantrum, big snotty tears and upset. We had to abandon the bath it was so bad. He's never once had a problem with it before.

Anyone got any foolproof techniques or nifty gadgets for washing hair without the stress?

My son was a nightmare about this for around a year, aged 2-3. Swimming goggles helped quite a lot, also use a flannel to rinse (creates a very gentle and contolled amount of water) rather than using a jug or putting his hesd back into the bathwater. We ended up getting a visor as well....

We've just come out the other side of a 6-month phase of the same. Unfortunately nothing we did made any difference... sorry!

A year? Ye gods not sure I'm ready for that.

We are in a bad phase of this at the moment with DD (3). It has been going on for months and is showing no signs of abating. We have solved it occasionally with swimming goggles and/or lying back in the bath whilst the (still slightly soapy) water rinses her hair. However, even that doesn't always work. So sometimes, we have to resport to the swimming pool. Occasionally she will shower and even shampoo herself there. Worst comes to worst, at least she has a rinse in chlorine-y water.

It is so sad though as she has lovely thick hair and we have ended up cutting it just so there is less of it to worry about.

I feel your pain, but maybe you will be lucky and it will just be a one-off.

By the way, we have bought every hair washing gadget-shield thingy around - they all result in screaming on sight. I am thinking of buying dry shampoo for really bad hair days.

DS still hates having his hair washed age 4. I just don't do it very often :(

I dealt with it partly by washing DD's hair infequently - she didn't have a lot and it coud go for a couple of weeks easily without a wash. She didn't rub food in it so it never really got 'dirty'.
She's 5 now and still not keen, but tolerates it much better - wash it maybe once a week now.
DP funnily enough also hates the sensation of water on his head and neck.
