what's a dodi?

compo · 23/04/2006 18:35

is a dodi a dummy? How about the fairies ahev taken it away and replaced it with a new bedside light becauswe you are such a big girl now?

desperateSCOUSEwife · 23/04/2006 18:37

hermykne when it drops on ground accidentally
i would say that it is dirty and needs to go in the bin
or
you have to take it to the dodi shop
when it has to be picked up in a week or so
dd will pester and be winging for a few days but will soon get used to it
and by time she remembers she wont need it
hope it goes well

phone a shop that you dont visit and not near your usual routes iykwim
explain the situation on the sly
and take dd with you to hand it over

most people will do this for you
if they dont will be very surprised

We had them put into a box and left out for the fairies who swapped it for a dvd.

She is kind of anti fairies now though Grin

At 3 we asked ds if he wanted to swap all his schnullies (dummies) for some geomag and play doh - he agreed immediately and threw the dummies in the bin - he did not look back . My advice would be to pick your moment - don't even hide one in the laudary basket (as I did) and do wait for the child's co-operation - make the bribe really good
Even if dc is ill a few days later - don't fish the one out of the laundry basket - my hardest test

macadamianut · 23/04/2006 19:23

I just threw them all in the bin one day. He was upset and we had to be inventive to soothe him but he got over it gradually.
I had a daughter afterwards and because of all the problems we had with my son I just made sure she never had one in the first place.
My poor son, he was the test-run for my parenting skills!

hermykne · 23/04/2006 19:51

macadamia, i know the 1stis a test ground, ds never got a bottle and only has a dummy for sleep but doesnt bother him if he doesnt.

Hi,

I have recently gone through the same thing. dd (then around 2.3) was very attached to her teddy and her dummy (dummy at bedtime only and whejn poorly) - we explained to her that a "dummy fairy" comes at some point soon and that she takes all the dummies away to give to babies - but in return she leaves lovely presents. So, we spoke about it for few days, and then she started looking forward to presents too. So, we bought few bits that she wanted and left them in her room sprinkled with fairy dust - and when she came from nursery she was estatic - asked for dummies, we explained again what happened to them and even now she tells other kids at nursery that fairy will come soon, take their dummies away, and leave loads of presents. LOL
Well, this worked for us but we kept dummies hidden for few weeks just in case it wouldn't work. She's almost 3 now and really happy she's a big girl (we've managed to potty train her in 2 days flat during holidays as well, so she's extra chuffed)
