Speech problems with 4yo

My dd is 4yo & is in Reception Year at school.
Her speech is very delayed, she says the beginning of a word but not the end.
She very rarely speaks sentences either and even then most people can't work out what she is saying.

This causes communication problems at home, school & with her friends.

She was on the waiting list for speech therapy at the nursery last year, but no action was taken and it was left until when she started school.
All i know is that someone comes into the school to assess her.

I would like to know of any rescources or help i can get.

Who has come into school to assess her? It sounds like they need to be pushjed a lot more to get her speech therapy started.

Does she have a speech therapist, is that who comes to school?

If so you are able to attend sessions, I did with my son just this morning. You will be given exercises to work on.

No its just a lady from the special teaching service.
Her speech doesn't seem to be progressing and yes i think the school does need pushing but i was wondering if there is any exercises we could do at home?

How do i go about getting her the help she so needs?
She isn't classed as sn but the letter from the teaching service states that she is early years action plus-does anyone know what this means?

It's written down that the school needs to revisit phase 1 of letters & sounds, to use visual cues to support her understanding and to provide flashcards which she can use to help her communicate her daily needs.
That the school needs to use a multi sensory approach to all her learning.
It also says in the letter that the school should consider what reasonable adjustment can be made to fufill my dds needs and fufil any obligations under the disability equality duties-are they saying she is disabled?

The letter was written in november but i have only just recieved itConfused
I don't understand why i have only just recieved it.

Call your local speech thearpist, you can self refer. They will probably see her at school but you can go along and ask any questions you need to.

The lady from the special teaching service really needs to sit down with you and explain what she has written.

I really don't think they should have sent you a letter like that without first talking to you about it. Maybe make a gp appointment to discuss the letter too, she may need input from other specialists.

Hope you both get the help and support you need.

I agree,to just send you a letter like that is awful. Would you feel able to post this in MN Special Needs? You will get some fantastic support & ideas of how to move forward.
