Come and reassure me about toddlers and food....

I know this, I have had two previous to this one, and I know the evil ones toddlers do this, but please make me feel better by telling me just how annoying your own child is with food!

The usual stuff, what she liked yesterday she doesn't like today, yes she wants that oh! No it's on the floor, eats two spoonfuls and then tells me she's finished. Then wants to eat someone else's.......

The dog is doing well out of it, but after a day stuck in with her as she doesn't like the snow either, I just need a little reassurance!

nope, you are the only one, sorry, this is news to me, my 6 always eat everything they are given without a fuss, thank me politely after finishing every morsel.....

and they never fight with each other or ignore me,

very tidy too

I don't ever have to nag them to do homework/piano practice or get ready on time

bedtime is a breeze

they are so easy, I'm never tired or cross ..................................................................................................................................................oooh, I must have fallen asleep coz I've just had a lovely dream about an IMAGINARY family with perfect children!

My DD is 4 going on 5 and for at least two years, she survived on milk, cucumbers, oranges and potatoes.

No lie.

She now eats anything...and is 75th percentile height and weight. Dont fret about it...let her be. If she only wants one spoon...fine...let her have an apple later. No bother.

They self regulate and learn to like foods gradually.

amazingmumof6 that's it, I'm coming to live with you!

Mine has just started this charming phase.

He used to eat anything and everything, it was bliss! In the past 3 weeks we have been reduced to one type of hot meal. Pasta and pasata, it's always been a favourite but it suddenly became the holy grail.

This week pasta is not an option. In any form. It will end up upside down on the floor amidst a flurry of hand flapping, head shaking and no no no no.

Hes eaten nothing after breakfast but rice cakes/oatcakes and humus and bananas for over a week.

I gave up today and put a plate of roast dinner in front of him, that's always good for some high drama.

He ate the sodding lot and asked for more. I give up.

amazingmumof6 · 18/01/2013 18:50

I bet you are cheered up!Grin

so back to Earth - you are not the only one, of course!

my DS1 used to love chicken, then out of the blue refused to eat it - took me weeks to figure it out that he suddenly realized - wait for it - that bits get stuck between his teeth and he that is what he didn't like!

true story!

I reminded him about the fact that there's a super invention called toothbrush, which he's going to use shortly after dinner

he ate his chicken.....

and you know the best excuse for not sleeping? nothing as boring as hungry, thirsty, not tired, afraid of the dark - that's for amateurs!

DS3 genuinely couldn't fall asleep because his nails were too long - ffs!

I cut his nails, he was asleep in 5 mins.

RandallPinkFloyd · 18/01/2013 18:54

That's priceless Grin

I am momentarily buoyed but am under no illusions that it will be so gratefully received tomorrow.

Kids are weird.

MrsLovely · 18/01/2013 20:37

I'm loving the nails too long, what a brilliant excuse!

RandallPinkfloyd what a welcome relief reading your child's menu, mine today has mainly eaten rice cakes ( but only covered in yogurt. And then only half, the other half is discarded) and her sister's pizza.

She didn't want her drink either, despite me tempting her with apple juice. But she did drink copious amounts of bath water, so it all turned out ok in the end!

It's all hydration ain't it!

Mibby · 18/01/2013 21:12

Mines much the same. And she eats stuff for other people that she wont touch here, making me look a total liar. Which is always helpful.

reallyyummymummy · 18/01/2013 21:25

You are not the only one.

My DS1 has decided he is a vegetarian - he turns down almost all meat (with the exception of finely ground mince and fish). Bloody nightmare.

DS2 slightly easier.

I keep on telling myself it will not affect him intellectually, developmentally or otherwise. If I just keep on offering he will at some point take the food.

MrsLovely · 18/01/2013 21:53

Yes but the keep on offering just gets so......frustrating after a while!

Am now wondering what we'll be facing at breakfast tomorrow, this morning she really really wanted porridge, ate three spoonfuls and then decided a chocolate biscuit and peppa pig was the only way forward!

Btw she didn't want to eat peppa pig. Or at least I think not.

And I curse the day the older DCs
Introduced her to the biscuit cupboard!
