Hi mums, advice please i have a sleeping issue with my 19 month old, he had been ill for a few weeks & would cry for me to stay with him all of a sudden after loving sleep. Tried controlled crying and he would make himself sick for me to go to him. Took him to docs and they said he had a chest infection which he is prone to, a few weeks later and as i thought he was still ill after a course of antibiotics and drs finally said he had hand foot & mouth few days before xmas. I then began to sit with back to him & have progressed to floor & used night light. From monday he went down ok, tue i had to stay a while as he cried and last night he went down ok again but still not totally sorted. As he's been ill & off food because of ulcers in mouth & throat its really hard not wanting to distress him further, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Poor thing. I think it could be partly because he has been ill and partly the 18 month sleep regression.

As for sleep, ive always done what I need to do o get some sleep. Think what you are going through will pass soon anyway once his health improves and sleep training is never recommended when they are poorly.

Have a read of 31 ways to get your baby to sleep.

As for his sore mouth have you tried making things like milky lollies or milky jellies?

Hi

Thanks, his appetite is much better now but he is still cautious of what he is eating so I will try the lollies and jellies. I will read the 31 ways too, last night he did have a winge but did go to sleep & let me go which has improved greatly since night light has been on. Thankyou so much for your advice.

My daughter had a massive sleep regression at about 19 months (the 18 month sleep regression already mentioned, she had hers a bit late). When I say massive, it only lasted a week, but it was brutal. She took 2 - 4 hours to settle to sleep at night, and then she'd be up for about four hours through the night. We just coped as best as we could, tried not to go insane, and she suddenly popped back to her old habits of sleeping well again. I hope that's your son all back to his old self again :)
