How many words (intelligible) can a boy say at 15 months?

My son is 15 1/2 months and although he seems to understand everything we say, e.g. get me your cup, go find daddy etc, he only says three words takk for thank you, out and 'that' for everything else. he can do animal sounds/ point to pictures etc but a friend told me their son was referred for speech delay at about his level/age. should we be concerned? it's almost. as though he is just not able to enunciate the words yet? I know there are loads of threads on here but any advice would be hugely appreciated. thanks all

DS2 is the same age, and can only say, 'hiya', 'ama' (mummy) 'ada' (daddy) and 'this!'

DS1 was the same, and around 18mo his speech took off, and everyone comments on how advanced his speech is now.

I worried with DS1 because he didn't even really say mummy or daddy until past 18mo, but he is fine and never shuts up now Grin

DS couldn't say many words at his 2 year check. The HV wasn't worried. Pretty much the next week he started talking in sentences.

I took DS2 to the doctor to ask for a hearing check at 23 months because he hadn't said a word. Within three weeks he had tons of words, and within six weeks he was starting to combine. At 2.5 he now sings almost constantly Grin. If (as you say) he understands instructions, can point to pictures and does animal sounds, I would say you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
