How to treat my 2yo's Scar

hello- my 2yo DD had a nasty accident and needed stitches in her forehead. She has a large scar and marks where the stitches were.
What creams could I use to help it fade? The surgeon said bio oil but is there anything else?

When my ds had facial surgery, we were just advised to use aqueous cream on his scar. We had to massage it twice daily for a minute each time. We did this for months. It's now barely noticeable.

I looked up the evidence at the time and from what I can remember it's not the cream itself that works, but the massage effect, which stimuates blood flow to the area & the release of chemicals to help with healing.

That was a while ago now, maybe there's some new wonder cream out there...?

Forgot to say, your poor dd, hope she feels better soon.

Your poor DD, hope she is recovering ok. When DH had a nasty run-in with an axle grinder, DSIL and DSIS suggested rosehip oil and 'heal balm' (google). Can't comment on effectiveness as DH has just opted for the rugged scarface look instead. Also you would have to check suitability for a 2yo.

The scar has actually faded quite well so I hope your DD's does too. (Actually I have a facial scar I got age 3 that I hardly think about now). But the dr in A&E did say that had DH been a child (or female) he would have been offered plastic surgery.

Remember to put sunblock on in summer.

Poor your dd. Hope you manage to fade it.

Something with silicon is best, as it will stay on top of the scar preventing loss of moisture, and will also hydrate the scar. All of which promotes healing. And YY to massage.

DS had stitches and a scar age 2. We used bio-oil and it is barely visible now (he's 4 now).

dc had a nasty cut on btidge of nose last summer. we were advised to cover it with plasters to protect from uv rays and to use vit-e oil (break open vit e capsules from health food store) mornings and evenings. scar is still there but hopefully will fade in time. plastic suregon told us that earliest after a year they could look at scar minimising measures.

Sorry just realised angle grinder, not axel. Not that it's particularly relevant...

I had a really bad burn, once the skin had healed over I used a very very good quality, high grade vit e oil on it and you can't see it.

We just used bio oil on ds1's scar from when he was 2, cut above his eyebrow, tbh it is still visible but that's more to do with the absolutely rubbish job the dr did of glueing it (we had to go back 3 times as it kept coming undone Hmm) than whether the bio oil was effective or not. It's a lot less noticeable now than it was though.

Thanks everyone. I shall certainly start to massage it and get some vit e oil and aqueous cream. A plastic surgeon stitched it- because she is a girl. His words 'we wouldnt have bothered for a boy'! I bet you were furious [cassel]. Thank god it was a quiet day in a&e. She's fine and now has a fringe!!
