Explaining childbirth/ genitals to 3 year old DS

Right, starting a new thread on here as I kinda hijacked a thread in AIBU about it but think this is a more appropriate place to post.

Am 32 weeks pregnant & DS just turned 3. He's not overly asked a huge amount of questions about the baby but knows there is a baby in mummy's tummy, he was in mummy's tummy once, the baby is joined to mummy inside by a tube & that his belly button is where his tube was . . . And that when the baby is big enough it will pop out. There has been no mention of 'where' the baby pops out from & he hasn't asked.

Should I wait till he asks or sit down & explain where baby pops out? Also the terminology used, I've previously used the word 'flower' for vagina but realise now this may lead to confusion. Any other words people use for
vagina? . . I'm not keen on using the words 'vagina' and 'penis' as I feel they should be age appropriate. . Don't want him being the only boy in nursery who refers to his willy as his penis! Obviously will introduce the correct terminology as he gets older.

Also can anyone recommend any good books on childbirth/ pregnancy for a 3 year old?

Thanks

yes, wait for him to ask.
then as you have done so beautifully already just explain in the simplest terms

I've just asked my older kids (11, 9, 8, 6) how I explained it and they can't remember (DS is 9 months old...) so much for trying to get it right! Grin

I'm sure I just say that there's a hole between mummy's legs that gets bigger as the baby wants to come out (I think I said birth canal or tunnel or similar)

we use willy for boys and nuni (our term when little, I'm not English), but I heard girlie parts, minnie (and front bottom, eugh..)

as to where babies come from, we say that mummy has a seed, called egg, and daddy has a seed called sperm and they meet to make a baby, when mum & dad spend some special lovely time together.
they normally don't ask more

(I friend of mine was told that daddy wees into mummy....anything is better than that!)

the older ones of course ask lots of questions, I just answer everything, but try not to over explain.
