My dgs will be 4 next month. He is a bright, loving child with a very sunny disposition. He loves preschool, gets on with his older brother etc etc.
However he has suddenly started saying that he will cut people up with a chainsaw, shoot mummy till she is dead etc.
His dad has a chainsaw and the little one has watched him cutting up logs but whatever has made him start saying stuff like this? His mum is worried there is something wrong! He is sweet with animals and very loving with babies,he shares his sweets and toys etc.
I said its just a phase but would welcome some reassurance if possible.

My cousin is 5 and says things like this. He talks about putting people in coffins.

His parents let him watch The Secret of Crickley Hall among other things which I personally think are unsuitable for him. But thats their choice.

Does he go to nursery? Have contact with older children? You would be surprised what they pick up, and ofcourse their imaginations run away too.

I dont think I would worry too much unless he was being violent or was unhappy in certain aspects of his life.

He only ever watches cbeebies,Postman pat Tractor Ted and Bob the Builder!he does go to a nursery class attached to the primary school [ a small country scool] he must have heard it somewhere I suppose. He seems very happy-no nightmares, sleeps and eats well potty trained easily at two-I just dont understand it.His brother is 6 and just tells him not to be silly.

My ds says stuff like that sometimes. He's nearly five. Once when I told him nanny was coming for tea he exclaimed he was going to shoot her Blush and he's also said things like he's going to chop so and so's head off. The rest of the time he's delightful honest!

Having spoken to friends with similar age children they say their kids come out with similar. I'm not concerned.

that is a relief :) as long as he isnt the only one Grin

My DS also comes out with similar. He has never been allowed to watch anything inappropriate.

I think it is more a case of not understanding what they are saying. they hear these things from older children, and repeat them, without understanding what it really means.

My dd who is 4 told dh she was going to chop his hand off with a knife he was using to cut some cauliflower and broccoli up for dinner earlier .
