You can't train them to be dry at night - when they reach a certain growth point enough of a particular hormone is produced that enables them to either stay dry or wake up for a wee. There's nothing either you or she can do about it, you just have to wait till she's been dry at night a few times and then try without nappies.

Basically agree with what Zuleika said. I have tried everything & nothing works, they either do it naturally or not. I think I've heard a few stories of kids who became dry after being offered chocolate rewards, BUT if that's going to work it works right away & consistently. Else, you just have to wait.

If they get to 7 & still wet at night you can ask GP for medical intervention but that may not work, either.

Thank you both..
Iv heard so many different things that I just didn't know what to do, but I'm just going to wait Smile

katherine, you have not given much info in your OP, so I am not sure what you mean by 'she doesn't even try'. Does she still wear a nappy at night or is she wetting the bed?

FWIW, DS was dry during the day at 2.6 but I still put him in a nappy at night which was always wet through in the morning. When he was 3.2 I tried him with no nappy at night and he was fine - no wet beds at all. I don't know if you have tried this - I would probably wait till the warmer weather anyway.

Sorry what does OP stand for?
She still wears a nappy which is wet every morning.. Iv spoken to her about getting up and she says she will but she's a very deep sleeper ?? wev tryed keeping a nappy off but we end up with a Wet bed Hmm

OP = Original Poster, whoever started the thread or even OP=Original Post, the first post that started the thread.
It's because we're too lazy to scroll around & copy your name down properly.
MNers used to all actually use TalkNames when replying in thread, or might have addressed you as "kat90", but the OP convention has spread here from elsewhere online. It makes sense when threads get long & harder to follow.

Like I said, IME (In My Experience): They seem to do it on their own or they don't. Nothing I do will make it happen sooner.

Thanks for coming back with more info. I really don't think you can expect a 3 year old to get up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet - they can either go through the night without needing to pee or they can't!

I would leave her in a nappy/pull up for the time being - at least until the spring when you can always try again.

Insecure24 · 12/01/2013 13:07

My dd is 2.7 and doesn't wear a nappy to bed but will shout "mummmmmmy I need a weeeeee" in the middle of the night which makes me jump out my skin. Sometimes I think I'd prefer just a good night sleep with her in a nappy Confused

trekkerdad · 12/01/2013 13:08

Hey, we've reduced the amount of fluid we give our 3 1/2 yo son before bed and we get him up for a wee as we go to bed. This prevents wet beds most of the time although we sometimes get a wet visitor around 3am. Does anyone else get their child up at night?

pmgkt · 12/01/2013 13:19

I have read research which suggests that asspartamine (prob spelt wrong, but the thing they replace sugar with) inhibits the hormone required for dry nights, and that is why there are so many older kids still in nappies st night. That said I wouldn't say your daughter is old, some kids aren't even dry during the day yet.

matana · 12/01/2013 13:56

My niece is a little older and has only just begun being dry at night. It just began happening naturally last week. I think it just happens when their bodies are ready.

MrsAFlowerpot · 12/01/2013 14:00

OP. My DD (3.9) has been completely dry in the day for over a year. we continued to use pull ups at night until December when she began to have continually dry pull ups in the mornings. We then put her in to knickers at night.

Agree, there will come a time where she just is dry at night.
