if you ever doubted the value of leaving kids entirely to their own devices to play without grown up prompts or suggestions listen to what dd(6 in a couple of weeks) and her friend did today. They chose a range of things (her t-shirt, various toys), drew pictures of each thing, then one at a time tied them to a helium balloon she's got at the moment. They then wrote yes or no next to each picture dependent on whether the balloon lifted them up or not. DH - scientist through and through - will be delighted. But he's not home yet and I had to share this! feed my (probably short-lived) feeling that kids are actually Amazing with more stories...

Great! Your dd will undoubtedly go far. In our house things tend not to get quite so educational -- last time my children were left to their own devices they ended up sitting in the sandpit seeing how much sand they could tip into their knickers, while singing, 'I'm a Barbie girl'...

I love the fastidious documentation of the experiment more than the actual experiment itself!

Very impressive.

I told you it would be short-lived. they are now refusing to go to sleep. we haven't done sand in kncikers but we did have a rather memorable knickers on head incident that involved pronouncing themselves to be Beeeyuuuutiful Daaaaancing Kings.

Hatlady! My ds 4 spent 90 minutes today happily in his bedroom organising a party for his teddies! He went to the shops and bought the goodies (paid at the till!) packed them in a tescos carrier he came and asked for. Took them to the party and arranged all the "food" on plates in front of each teddy - So cute!
