3 month old won't settle

Don't really know what to do, my baby is brilliant at night. I have worked hard with my DS to get him into a routine which he has his last feed at 8 and wakes at 4 for a feed. But in the day I can not settle him at all. He feeds and has a little play but once he is tired he won't settle. He screams and crys for what seems like ages. I just have to persevere until he eventually falls asleep on me. I can't put him down then. I am worried that he will get used to sleeping on me. Any advice you can give would be great.

He's probably getting overtired - it really doesn't take much to overstimulate a baby this small. At this age my DS was doing 90 minutes awake then 45 minutes asleep during the day. Have you tried feeding to sleep?

ditzyd · 29/12/2012 16:26

Yeah I have tried that, it just makes him sick. We have tried everything to try settle him as he works himself up into a right state but nothing seems to work. Must just be the way he is bless him.

can you try a baby carrier/sling? or a walk in the pram so at least he sleeps even if you don't?

How do you know he isn't just hungry?

StarOfLightMcKings3 · 29/12/2012 16:48

8 hours of no food overnight is pretty unusual and I'd expect him to be very hungry throughout the day.

Dummy? I said I would never ever use one but my DS took comfort with one - very good for his colic - I think saliva helps soothe growing tummies? just another thought - is he allergic to cows milk perhaps? or lactose?

It does get better.

Just because he's being sick doesn't mean it's not a good thing to do - most babies posset a bit.

He has 6 bottles at 6oz's which I have been told is absolutely normal and he is gaining weight nicely so don't think he is hungry. Though I have tried giving him more milk to settle him but he just spits it out. He only does it when he is tired but it's hard to settle him. He does have a dummy which he does take but he struggles to keep it in his mouth. I have thought maybe it's the milk, I use sma. I do put him in his pram, he does sleep really well when we go out for walks. Maybe it's just me over reacting lol. Thanks for all your advice Smile
