Baby screams if not upright or in forward position

My son is now just over 2 weeks old; at first he was happy to be put down on his back in his cradle or basket or next to me on the bed. But for at least the last week he will not be put down on his back or even cradled leaning back in the traditional 'holding a baby position'. If we try this, he may accept it for about 30 seconds and then starts to scream - even if he was fast asleep. The only way to stop him is to either hold him upright or, even better, put him in a leaning forward position (ie up on the shoulder or propped leaning forward against my forearm). This means we can't even put him to bed at night so we have to try and have him sleep on my chest all night.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and if its normal? And is there anything we can do about it? Its getting pretty exhausting and limiting.

Sounds like it could be reflux? www.babycentre.co.uk/a567208/reflux

Google reflux and silent reflux. Could be .... !

Also I'd get a sling so you can just carry him round and still get stuff done. I had this one and it was great: www.nctshop.co.uk/Close-Parent-Caboo-Carrier/productinfo/4469/

Sounds like reflux to me too and your baby needs the correct diagnosis and treatment otherwise you will have a behavioural sleep problem long after the reflux problem has gone. In the meantime distract your colicky baby with some music and soft lighting in the bedroom, introduce a comforter with your scent. Make sleep time relaxing and calming. Speak to your GP and HV for treatment options.

You don't say how you are feeding your baby. If you are ff it might be worth changing the formula. If you are bfing, have a read of this on tongue tie and see if it is similar to what you are experiencing and then let us know Xmas Smile.

Also agree regarding getting a sling, I used the Close one and it was fab. If you are looking for one, you really need one that you can put on easily. Your local Children's Centre may have some to loan out or try a slingmeet, but don't worry about getting things done, at the moment, afterall in many cultures you'd still be in bed with your baby being looked after Xmas Smile.
