19-month-old DS still shaking his head from side to side when going to sleep

That's it really.. Should I be concerned? I heard somewhere it could be a sign of autism?

Sorry I dont have any advice but my sister still did way into her 20s.....she is nearly 40 now and Ive a feeling that when she can (she is a mum) she would still do it now!

I still at the age of 42 rub my feet together when going to sleep .... its just a form of soothing I would imagine!

I did it up to my late teens. Ds2 did it too when he was a baby. It's a form of self soothing.

My DS does it but only when overtired. I read somewhere that its related to being overtired. Does your DS do it even when he shouldn't be tired?

Ds1 still does it and he's 17.

Hm, KnockedUpMell I think he does tend to do it when he has trouble nodding off and is I suppose overtired if it's taken me ages to try to get him to sleep.

Good to know many people do this or have other similar habits way past toddlerhood:)! Yes I always did think it was just a form of self-soothing, but then happened to come across some discussion on early signs of autism..

My DD has just turned 3. Every night, she puts her comforter over her face and then shakes her head from side to side. To be fair, she's asleep within seconds so it obviously soothes her!
