Becoming human dummy

My 11week old feeds every 3-3.5hrs in a day, but started waking every 2hrs or less throughout the night. He wants feeding every time but feeds for only up to 10 and then falls asleep. Trouble is he's holding on to my nipple and suckles. I have tried 'tanking' him up around 10pm so he sleeps longer, but he still wakes around 12.30-1am, then 3, then 5ish...
I have tried offering dummy, but after some trying he always get too frustrated and seems to actually want nursing, so i stoped trying to help him hold it in. Reverse psychology doesn't work as he never holds it in too strong.
This morning he nursed 6, 8, 10 and every time he falls asleep...
Surely he should eat more I'm one go now...? And less often...?
Please help?!?

Slightly early growth spurt? Dd fed every two hours for about a week during one.. To keep him awake, tickle toes, under chin etc. are you drinking enough water? To be hones though, it sounds normal for this age.

Sparklyboots · 17/12/2012 14:59

Sounds like you are having a growth spurt - in which case it will settle itself down in a few days. It sounds totally normal - and remember that while your baby doesn't know much he knows when he's hungry, you can trust him on that.

You aren't a human dummy - those other things are plastic dummies of you.

Good luck darling x it passes so quickly no particular stage is worth worrying about.

Sounds normal to me too. At 11 weeks I would still expect him to feed through the night. If you want to unlatch him, just pop your little finger into the corner of his mouth to break the latch and get your nipple out. I still have to do this with my DS if he falls asleep on the boob and he's nearly 3 - but don't worry, he stopped feeding at night a looooong time ago! Grin

Try posting in Breast/Bottle Feeding as you'll get more support there. ie more women in the same boat, not that it's not supportive here!

Thank you all for supoortive replies...i think you're all right.
Every night is different and i was just getting worried he is getting bad habits. After having read some books on sleep, I realize now that's not possible at his age. I'll keep up! Yaaaawn!
@sparklyboots - love the reverse comparison - made me chuckle! ;-)

Think you are doing totally the right thing in trying to tank him up during the day, the pull off sounds like a good idea too.

My 9 week old has been exactly the same the last couple of days! V grouchy and will only settle when fed! She doesn't always appear to be feeding though and tends to suck for comfort but anything to stop her crying!! Tried expressing to give myself the occasional break but she won't take to bottle at all. Using modela calma ones has anyone else had success with these?

Dorisday13 · 01/01/2013 11:13

Going through exactly the same thing here, 9 weeks old and just wants to suck all night, it's exhausting isn't it, feeling so drained, HV said was a growth spurt/development surge but we just went through exactly the same for 3n before Xmas and I wasn't expecting it again so soon! Likewise LO won't take a bottle and DH has vittoed a dummy. Nice to hear other people with the same storySmile

Have you also tried feeding more often during the day? If they can do 3.5 during the day but only 2 at night you could do with swapping that around. Try feeding every 2 in the day and make sure you take Lo outside at least once every day, the daylight really will help turn things around.

Try googling kellymom reverse cycling and askdrsears 31 ways to get your baby to sleep too.
