As soon as you say the word sleepy or as soon as she gets out the bath she will expect it and kicks off of she doesn't have it.

How does your 6mo self-soothe?

She doesn't cry (literally) but is a fidget when sleepy and likes a dummy to suck on for a while. She is breastfed but not very often feeds to sleep so likes to suck on a dummy but just wondered what others do/ use for their 6mo?

She's currently been fed and now gurgling in her cot happily.

It's just when she goes from chilled I over tired she likes to be rocked or with a dummy?

Do you want your DD to lose the dummy completely? Or just not want it too soon before bed?

If it's the former, then you'll have to go cold turkey. Do you think the Dummy Fairy might work?

If it's the latter then put some ground rules in place - dummy only when in cot/bed etc. Or start to vary your routine...give bath before tea for a while, or in the morning?

Most 2 yr olds will tantrum about something, you just need to be firm and consistent and she'll get the message :)

It's not an issue for bed, half the time she doesn't even need it. It's just comfort to know she has it at nap/ sleep time.

I think dummy fairy will come maybe when she's a bit older? She was two in oct so maybe next summer?

DS was a total dummy monster. Can tell you what we did, though obvs your DD is a different child, but does sound a similar addict!

When he was around 20-21 mnths I got really strict with it and he only had it for naps or sleep, which he took to fairly easily, however moving on from there was quite difficult... Partly because it made for a much much easier bedtime and settled him fairly easily during night wakings. Some nights it'd literally be like a switch, as soon it went in his mouth his eyes would roll and he'd be practically asleep whilst I was still putting his pjs on!

Anyway, I basically gradually (as in over several months!) introduced the idea of the dummy fairy, and being a big boy etc, waiting until we could see he 'got' it and we finally had a visit from the dummy fairy nearly 2mths before his 3rd birthday.
He was fine the first night, in his brand new Mickey Mouse pjs the fairy left, however we did have a couple of bumpy nights for a week or so afterwards but no massive tantrums fortunately.

Good luck!

Ps - DS does now has a new 'addiction' - I have to run an "ear fingy" (Q-tip) around the folds of his ear every night for about quarter of an hour. Strange child. Grin
