Why is my 17 month old waking up at night

Pretty much gauranteed my 17 month old wakes up at least once in the night crying. She goes back to sleep after a few mins but she never did this before. Last night was the icing on the cake as she woke up so many times I lost count and she was doing tht sort of cry where I know she isn't upset but wants someone to come to her. The problem is I can't go to her unless she is really screaming because she will wake up and get distressed if I leave the room. I just don't understand, she is tired when she goes to bed, has one nap in the day, doesn't matter what time or how long it is, she always seems to wake up in the night. Last night she didnt eat much for dinner but she wasn't hungry, but maybe she woke up hungry. (Maybe she is training me for the next one that's due in feb lol)

Could she be cold? Dd(1) was doing this - we turned the temp.up a few degrees and voila - in fact, she is still asleep now.having gone to bed at 7am.

Oops 7pm.

Perhaps it could be. I will give it a try tonight. She sleeps so well in the day I can just never understand why she doesn't sleep well at night. She is one of these babies that gets hot very easily but she does sleep in a sleeping bag so perhaps I should turn the heating on a bit more. Anything is worth a try. I'm sure she will let me know if she is uncomfortable and too hot lol

So she woke up again at four. I'm absolutely exhausted. I have no idea why this is happening. Could she be thirsty because the heating is on, could it b that her night light is too bright, might try doing without it tonight. I have no idea why she wakes up so much :( help!!

Does she have all her teeth? Presumably she doesn't have the back set of molars yet? Could she be teething?

If she's thirsty you could leave a non-spill/leak cup (I think Tommy Tippee make them, I've been meaning to get one myself) in her cot.

Am having a similar problem with DS (19mo), but some nights he sleeps fine so on the nights he wakes up crying I do really think he needs something or is in pain (as much as it's annoying to have to get up and tend to him when he 'should' be able to sleep through).

I think her canines are coming through actually. I've put a non spill cup in her cot. Thanks so much for that suggestion. I even think the night light might b keeping her awake so we have switched that off and tried a bit of nurofen. I can hear her whimpering now but I'm guessing that's a bad dream. Funny how they have those only at night!! I'm really hoping something I've done tonight works. Fingers crossed :)
