Ds 18 months head banging when he doesn't get his own way.

Ds is just 18 months and a lovely but very determined little boy. Over the last few weeks he has started head banging every time he doesn't get his own way. It could be that he is not allowed something; dd's ipod touch, the tv remote, chocolate or that I am trying to get his face wiped or shoes on or even if he has the tv on and the programme he is watching finishes.
He just walks over to the nearest wall/door/ tv cabinet/ couch and bangs his head or smacks himself on the head. This is really worrying me because I worry he will hurt himself and it doesn't look great when we are out and he is slapping himself across the face.
Dd was always so chilled out and never did this so I don't know what I should do about it. Have tried ignoring him when he does it but it doesn't seem to stop him doing it.
Any one else had a baby like this who can offer some advice? Thanks.

My 22 month old has been doing this for a few months now, she has never hurt herself.

With dd I find that its frustration so depending on the cause I either try to distract her and if that doesn't work I ignore.

My Ds is 14 months old and he does the same. It is out of frustration. We have tried ignoring it and telling him not to but it doesn't make a difference. Funnily enough my brother did the same when he was a toddler. Sorry I don't have an answer but just thought I would post something to let you know you are not alone.

I am sure it is frustration, just worries me that rather than being something uncontrollable because he is frustrated it is deliberate because he will walk across the room to bang his head, does that make sense?
I do try to distract him but don't want to pander to him and give him everything he wants to stop him banging his head.
He is an amazing little boy though, keeps me busy but worth every second Xmas Smile

dd will walk to the kitchen wall to bang her head.

DS used to do this around 18 months. It was a shock after my totally non-violent daughter! It was a phase and it has passed now he is 2 and now he can use more words. Don't worry too much.
