When did your baby say mummy?

My DS is 14 weeks and I'm desperately waiting for him to mum/ mummy anything mmmmmmummm based. When did your little one start.

He is talking but i can't really make out many words yet other than daddy, da da, dot, dog ( there is a theme) and randomly plug & plane!

He did say mum once many moons ago but nothing since. Someone reassures me that this is normal and not a sign he's not that fussed about mummy!

Most babies don't actually start saying 'words' until about 12 months. My DD starting saying 'mamama' at about 8 months but she was just making the sound. She didn't have a clue that I was mummy.

Haha, chocolate, I thought the same thing!

Mine started saying 'mama' at about 9 months - but never to me! Thinks it means 'yummy' or something like that.

Says 'dada' a lot more

Not til 18 months for me, and mine was a very early talker. We had full sentences before I got a mummy, and even then it was 'bubby'!

Mine is the same as yours. If we say where's mum he even looks at us like we're dickheads. He's about the same age.

About 7months for mama and dada and at 11 months she has a nice little collection of words. However, she is lazy as fuck and others of the same age run rings around her in terms of cruising/walking.

About 9 months. He's 14 months too but quite a chatterbox. Says lots of things and has just started to combine words ie hello mama or bye bye dada or look cat or get up or sit down or up cuddle or eat nana etc.

DD was pretty much the same, said mama and dada reliably at 9 months, talking in complete sentences at 18 months.

I seem to make talkers.

Mine was like yours, Body - really early talker, but did I get a Mummy? Hmmm. She said Daddy and even Nana MONTHS beforehand. Can you tell I'm still bitter? Finally at around 16 months I think, she just said it (and properly meant it) and proceeded to do the Mummy dance going "Mummy, Mummy, Mummyyyyyyyyyy" in her nappy, which we managed to capture on video. It was so lovely.

Mummyyyyyyyyy? at 3.30 am - not so great. Be careful what you wish for.

Mine made mama sounds from about 9 or ten months, dada from a bit earlier, but there is a noticeable difference when they are saying it for real, showing an awareness of meaning.

His words really took off at 15 months and then it was much more obvious that he was naming us rather than making sounds, it became a definite 'Mum-ee' 'Dad-ee?.

It can feel like an age when you're waiting for them to do things, but when it happens it becomes so normal so quickly you can't imagine them not saying it

Over 2. He started talking a bit before 20 months, but 'mummy' wasn't in his first 200 words, nor in the next 3 months when he acquired a huge vocab.

Most embarrassing collecting from nursery when he'd toddle up to me shouting "Daddy, Daddy"

Dd at 10 months is making 'ma' and 'da' and loads of other noises which ds didn't until around a year.

Not yet....which is a bit galling since he's 14mo and has been saying dada and daddy for several months. The closest I have got is "mmmmmmmmmmm" when he was upset and wanted a cuddle.

My little boy said Mamama at about 8 and a half months I co stately refer to myself as mama and when I ask him to come to mama he knows who I am he's only said it about 3/4 times they just do it when they feel like it!

DD is 18mo and has only just started saying 'mummy' occasionally, although she has loads of other words and said 'daddy' really early on! She also likes to point at me and say 'daddy'.

Mine says mummy at 81/2 months as well. She just turns 10 months she does know I am mummy as when she wants me to pick her up she is says it but I suppose every child is different and as a mum we just want to hear them say it. Don't worry I am sure it will be soon. Do you when you talk to him or pick him up do you say "come to mummy or mummy is here"? I always talk this way so may be it explains why she knows I am her mummy.

DS said it at 22mo - he called me daddy before then. Now he says it all the time, but in a very cute way which makes me go all gooey

Around 19 months. He was more interested in cars and colours than saying mummy.

My dd said mummy at 15months, she was saying daddy, dog, Chloe(the name of our dog) cat and George (name of the cat) before that and I was most upset she didn't say mummy, then one day she said it and hasn't stopped since... mumm-y, mumm-y that's all I hear!!!

Mine said 'Cheese' before he said mum - he must have been about 18 months before he really started calling for me rather than just grabbing my hand and dragging me (mainly he was interested in food related words..)

Mine's the same as GoldPlated. DD is a year old now and lordy does she like to talk. Most of it is nonsensical but more and more often we get: Mummy, Daddy, yum yum yum at meal times and then sometimes we get weird stuff like espresso.

DD1 was about 1.5 but she was slow o talk. DD2 is 6 months and is saying da da, na na and mama but as other people say she doesn't have a clue which one is which haha

How do people define slow / fast to talk? DH and I were discussing this last night as DD is definitely going to be on the slower side to walk but she talks for England.

DD1 - three

her first word was 'dog' at 15 months. 'Daddy' happened at 18 months.

I know where I stand.

My 14 month old says mama, but she also says umma (which is her word for dummy) and they're pretty interchangeable. She can say also 'clock' almost perfectly. Odd child.
