Little boys lining things up...

Hi. Haven't posted for a while. Still here, though. Ma boy is 3 years and 3 months, now. As you can all imagine, it's getting tough in lots of new, mostly special, ways.

I was wondering - someone told me that there was a developmental term (jargon) for the phenomenon of 2ish-year-old boys lining up all their trucks/diggers/whatever on a surface and then, sort of, surveying their charges - like putting their toys on parade or something.

Has anyone heard of this? Please tell me I'm not going loopy.

My son, Tom, went through a big Bob The Builder phase when he was two (he's now into Toy Story, naturally) and the line-up thing was a big part of his play.

Just sayin'.

Anyone?

Cheers.

MIne likes collections of books - eg al the Mister men ones

he is 3 - brother is 5 and still does it

My ds2 used to do this.....with him it was his Captain Scarlet figures (going back a bit now!). He would do it at bedtime and wouldn't get into bed until it was done, and they had to be straight and in the right order. I was convinced he was heading for some sort of obsessive/compulsive thingy but he did grow out of it. I think it was a bit of a security issue with him after dd came along.

my ds 2y3m lines cars up too and his bob the builder diggers, definately got car park syndrome I was watching him the other day and he was playing with his cars and garage and he was making the cars go down the shootand turn over. The he lined up all the turned over cars - which I did think was a bit quirky

I used to do this as a very young child, my dd2 still does it very occasionally. Wish I still had a tidy trait.

Of course, now I've said mine does it all the time, he's suddenly stopped. Now it's piles of things... piles all his soft toys on the sofa or in a basket, then throws them all off and starts again!

Toddlers are just strange - it's my considered opinion.

I have a nephew that did this a lot, he also used to methodically move things from one place to another. My DS (2.5) never does it. I thought it was a personality thing - never thought it might be developmental - something to look forward too

By tracking do you mean the weird eye thing dinosaur?

Codsy -- are there any Mister Men books your DS would like? We have a small selection (almost all gifts) and my kids don't go for them so they just gather dust. Maybe use Contact another Talker if you think you want some. I think we have 2 different Christmas ones, for instance, Mr. Sneeze, Mr. Small (the only one even slightly read)... misc. others. I could send them to you for postage.

I've also another 'car liner upper' he's 29 months. He is exceptionally obsessed by cars and I just thought it was him playing carparks.
