Stinky wee in nighttime nappy - normal?

2.11 y.o. DS's nappy absolutely reeks in the morning. I have to give him a morning bath as otherwise he stinks too. Is that normal or should I be concerned?

He wees loads at night - he soaks a nappy with a maxi sanitary towel as a booster, and often leaks out onto a cloth booster that we wrap round his waist. He does bf at bedtime, but uses the toilet before bed and rarely bfs/drinks at night.

He is a very restless sleeper and seems to be more restless if he doesn't have a bedtime drink of water - which makes me wonder about some sort of bladder irritation.

During the day he drinks way more than most children his age, though I wouldn't say he wees particularly frequently.

Sounds as though there's no harm in a GP visit to get things checked out, particularly as you're having to 'boost' his nappy protection.

both my dds are/were heavy wetters at night, and their night nappies really honk/ed
dd1 wore a night nappy until mid-way through reception, and always needed a morning shower.
I assume it's just a question of the sheer amount, plus the time of exposure to air - i guess some of the wee has been there 11 hours before the nappy is changed.

My boys always had really full smelly morning nappies. For some strange reason I have always loved the smell. Blush

ew......
the bit that bothers me is that dd2 can't wear a pair of pyjamas for more than one night as the smell leeches out onto them, adding to my laundry mountain.

Is this a new thing?

My dd had really smelly nappies when she had a urinary infection, and had to wee more than usual. Might be worth handing a sample into the doc.

I've posted on your other thread, didn't see this one.

Wee is always more concentrated, therefore stinkier in the mornings, but the amount he is weeing and drinking would concern me. There is a history of diabetes in my family so I have to keep an eye out for the symptoms in ds, these symptoms would make me take him to the doctor to be tested.

Thanks, all. (I didn't know where I should post it, StickEm!) I'll mention it to the GP.

It's been like it for months, maybe a year or so. We used to use cloth nappies but they made his bottom sore. The dermatologist we see for DS's eczema was no help - just said to use barrier cream which didn't make any difference. Hmm
