Psychotherapy for anxious children - any experiences?

My 10yo ds is due to start seeing a psychotherapist in the new year, three times a week. DS is extremely anxious (in a general way, not about a specific issue), has very low self-confidence, is very bright but has poor motor skills/coordination. He behaves like an autistic child in some ways (repeated movement e.g. head-banging, conversational tics) although he has been assessed many times and is definitely not autistic. After years of trying to find the right thing to help him (has had CBT and has help for motor skills at school), we have seen a psychotherapist who seems to understand what his problems are and thinks he can help. I'm delighted but of course want to make sure we're doing the right thing, as 3 visits a week is bound to have a profound effect on my ds, on the shape of our week and on the whole family. Has anyone else's child had psychotherapy for anxiety and how have you and your child found it?
