How do you get 2.5YO to take Movicol for constipation?

We have long been on Movicol (about 18m) for DS who has a seemingly 'immature' bowel - we go from huge explosions when he is drinking it, to rapid and severe constipation when he's not. we can't regulate it. now we're at the stage when he's all bunged up again & paediatrician says to give 4 sachets a day to 'clear him out'...how??? he barely drinks all day, and point blank refuses - the only time he will drink is when half asleep in middle of the night and asks for milk, which we have now got into giving him as then we know he's drinking the movicol..but this in itself is wrong bcos he's a 2.5yo waking up 2-3 times a night for milk???!! (and then barely eating in the day..) it's driving me mad. Any ideas to move this situation forward??!!

I wouldn't personally, not without an actual diagnosis of lactose or cow's milk protein intolerance.

Hi. My DS1 was severly constipated as a small child-now 8. He was badly soiling his pants-toilet trained. He has issues with food-eats very little. I knew he was constipated but DH kept sayin he can't bé, as he had diarrhoea. But when you are very constipated you get what is called overflow, when liquid faeces high up bypasses the hard faeces. He was commenced on Movicol. But you need to clear the blockage before it will work. So we do a regime that is written inside on the info sheet. Day 1 2 sachets, day 2 4 sachets, day 3 6 etc up to day 6 12 sachets. Once clear we did 1 sachet morning and night. We do this clearout 2 a year even now. Although he is regular now. We give them in a fruit shoot, or half one, in the fs bottle. When you say they have "explosions" is this just for 1 or 2 goes? My DS will have "explosions" for the whole week he is on 'clearout'. Explosions are fine! They should bé 'running clear', that is pooing water by the end of clearout. Then start with regular daily routine. Smoothies and squishy fruit help too. Fresh squeezed oj. My advice, go back to gp. Ask if you can clear him out first. Try ANY liquid to get it into him. Brush their teeth more if worried about teeth. And DO NOT shout or get stessy at him, deffo makes it worse. BTW I was a nurse on ward where we often had to do 'clearouts' which is how I know that explosions are good! But don't do anything without checking with gp first! Hth.

I used to buy unfrozen ice pop, snip the lids of and add the sachet. I'd then put them in a jug so they could stand up and put them in the chest freezer.

DD loved them.

You could also make yogurt and fresh strawberry ones and add the sachet to them.

If I made it up in juice I would also make my self a glass without the sachet and then we would have a race with straws to see who could finish their glass first, sometimes we would time ourselves and record our personal bests on a wall chart!

Oh and make cornflake chocolate cakes and add the sachet into one or two of them maybes?
