Is my baby teething?

For the last week my 8 week baby had been quite sick. It started with projectile vomiting but doc said it was a virus. Since he was born he has sucked his hand and fingers when he is hungry but he has started nawing his fist all the time and has been blowing bubbles. I'm a first time mum so I was wondering if he might be teething?

It's possible but sounds like the kind of thing they start to do at this age. DD is 18 weeks and been doing all that for a while but there is still no visible signs of any teeth. But teeth can hurt them even while they are still inside the gums so if he ever seems in pain you might want to try gel or something. When he gets really red cheeks you will know for sure teeth are coming.

He doesn't usually cry unless he wants something but he's been crying all the time since yesterday. I don't know if it could maybe just be that he isn't feeling well with the virus but I just felt that it was a cry as if he is in pain :(. Poor wee guy :(. Thanks for the advice :)

Aw poor thing, and hope you have the chance to get some rest too. Are you giving him calpol or something for the virus? If not, maybe try teething gel. You know if he is in pain and I would give my DD something if I felt she was. Dd the doctor give you anything?

Its very early but not impossible. You could get some teething rings for him to chew on, keep them in the fridge so they are nice and cold on his gums.

Yeah I've been giving him calpol that the doc gave us and I tried him with a teething ring this morning. He's feeding ok but if hes not feeding or sleeping then hes ceying and its not like him. There does look as if there is a wee white bump on his gum but not underneath where the tooth should come through, it's on the surface. I feel so bad for him :(

Probably not, but it's not impossible.

I think he is teething. My now 4 month year old had the white spot you describe a few weeks ago. You can now see the tooth coming through. He also became suddenly very grumpy with disrupted sleep, began sucking his fingers and rubbing his gums. Also had a flushed cheek. Some people said to me he was too young to be teething - but he was.

A friend of mine's little girl was actually born with 2 teeth so anything is possible. All babies are different.
