Is it really accurate - toddlers height as adults is twice the height they are at 2 years old?

That means my DS will be really short!

Red book calc for DS says 6'5".

I did a height calculator. DP is 6ft 4 and I am 5ft 8. DD will be 5ft 11 allegedly!! Thank god we didnt have a boy because if the calculator is right, he would have been 6ft 9.
She is 2.5 and tall and skinny with size 8 feet. I was considered lanky at school. I really hope the calculator is bollocks.

My dad is 6ft 2 and my mum is 5ft 5. My brother is 6ft 3.....her grandad and uncle on other side are 6ft 3, so unlikely she will be short.

My ds is 3.5 & around 87cm. We are having to consider daily growth hormone injections to give him the possibility of a final height over 5ft. So it makes me really sad to hear people worrying their son will 'only' be 5ft 8!

Had DS2 measured at age 2 and was advised to see a growth specialist straight away. Saw a Professor who measured DH and myself (Mum) as well as DS2 and said that either DS2 had grown 3 cms in one week (since last being measured) or they had measured him wrongly.

He predicted that DS2 would be 5ft 6ins which he is (he is 21 now). DS1 was worked out to be 5ft 7 or so and this also proved correct. I am a smidge under five foot and DH is 5ft 6. DS2 would like to be taller and blames his parents.

I really do think your parents heights have more to do with your final height than how tall you are when you're two.

I am 5 ft 2 and DH is 5ft 11. When DD was 2 she was 3 ft 6 she is now 26 and 5 ft 10. Other DD is 5 ft 3 and DS age 12 is 5 ft.

I conclude there is no way of knowing and there height can come from anyone in the gene pool.

I think foot size is A more accurate indicator.

But I (at just under 5ft) have size 5 feet so I don't think that's a good indicator of height. They were that size when I started secondary school at 11 but didn't grow any more!

I think that's quite a big size compared to the other petite people that I know! I didn't have any medical issues when I was growing up which could account for it and my parents are 5ft 2 and 5ft 5.

There's a chart in the red book which predicts adult height to the right on this page. I have my doubts about it as I know so many women who are 5ft 9 or taller. It also says that 80% of people will fall within 6cm either side of their predicted height which suggests that it really isn't very accurate at all.

There's a fairly accurate algorithm that (once they are over four) takes their current height, current weight, father's height and mother's height and projects an adult height from that. WebMD has it online.

The foot size thing is a myth.

My dad is 5'10 and wears a size 7.
My bil is 5'8 and wears a size 8
XH is 5'8 and wears a size 11! (He's basically L-shaped.)

I've never actually looked at the red book [bad mother emiticon] I'm quite intrigued now! XH and I are pretty much the same height so it will be interesting to see how DS grows.

Red book put mine at 5ft 7 to 8. I'm 5ft 1. Dh was predicted to be 5ft 6 under these calculations but is 5ft 11. He was smallest in his class till 14 so I'm thinking my Littlies may shoot up a bit in their teens

I always thought it was their height at 18 months for girls and 2 years for boys. And it was the minimum height they would be not their absolute height.

My DS when measured at 2 came out at he would be 5' 10". He's 15 now and is 6'.

I had also heard the one about a mothers son will always be taller than her and for all the people I know and have asked, it's been true. Although that obviously isn't scientific..!!!

Take your DP's height in cm, add your height, add 6cm for a boy and subtract 6cm for a girl. Then divide by 2. 80% of children will be within 5 centimetres either side of that number.

If parents heights are wildly different - ie a 6ft 5" father and 5ft 2" mother then it's hard to get an accurate number.

Using the double the height at 2 can be very inaccurate. A fair number of children will have Constitutional Growth Delay where they grow a lot more slowly than their peers and will enter puberty and stop growing later. Ditto children with growth hormone issues.

DD sees endocrinologists as she has growth delay and I have never seen any of them double her height at 2 - they all use the parental height calculation.

It worked almost exactly (ie doubling height at 2) for my DSs. One is 6ft, the other 5'11" . I am 5'9", DH is 5'7"

No no no, untrue. Just silly ideas. You know it for yourself. We all know people who were tallest or shortest thru school & then ended up shortest/tallest adults. Tall people who had short kids & visa versa.
