Another thread has just reminded me I wanted to ask this.

DTs are 27months and still love to be spoon fed, they love their food mashed up. When I put food on their plate not mashed up, they just play with it, there are only a few finger foods they will actually eat. I try to encourage them each mealtime to feed themselves, but at best they will only have a few bites. I am happy to contiue to feed them, that way I know they are eating enough as they are still tiny, but worried it will delay development. Do you think its ok for me to continue spoon feeding?? or am I making a rod for my own backSmile

Blush

I still occasionally spoonfeed my nearly 3 year old. He can use a spoon and fork, so it isn't necessary, but sometimes he just can't be bothered.

I probably am making a rod for my own back, though.

i think it is good for them to have different textures and get used to eating "proper" food... i would try and introduce more

They will eat anything, but if it is put on a plate in front of them, they just play with it, get bored then go back to playing, even though They are hungary.

Glad to know I'm not the only one Colditz......

starlover · 22/03/2006 22:19

i would sit with them at the table and just keep reminding them to eat.

I still feed my lazy 4yr old and KNOW I have made a rod for my own back!

My 17m old feeds himself better than my 4 yr old!

It is my fault though!

Blimey!
You lot are patient!
My kids are/were doing it all themselves by about 18 mths.
Couldn't be arsed to do it for them.

starlover · 22/03/2006 22:25

hehe moondog i'm the same, my 13 month old is "allowed" to feed himself pretty much all the time now.
i give a little guidance now and then, although he mostly uses hands

are we just lazy?

handlemecarefully · 22/03/2006 22:25

I sometimes end up feeding my 3.9 year old - "feed me mummy, feed me mummy", she repeats when tired, so that ultimately I end up giving in; rather that then throttling her, eh?

Hmm moondog, dinner when soup was on the menu must have been quite a sight ! Grin
