Does your toddler use 'baby' cutlery? or full size?

I'm just wondering really. DS2 is nearly 3. We've always given him 'smaller' cutlery (if I can't find the stainless steel stuff, which is inevitable - I always lose the blinking forks - we use the ikea plastic stuff that is quite a big 'head' but a smaller chunky handle) I don't really like the plastic forks though as they don't 'spear' food easily which gives him trouble.

I feel a bit wierd giving him full sized stuff (which his 5 year old brother uses fine although he's still little in comparison to an adult) just because he's so small proportionately - his mouth is little - his hands are little, and a full size fork makes me think he's going to do himself an injury.

Am I being daft?

Oh yes - I was in Dunelm last week and they had fab cutlery for kids, to the point I wished we needed some. Grin

You'll deffo get something there.

bit of both. DS (3.2) has a number of sets of small metal cutlery. He doesn't seem to have a problem with the forks. These for example.

When we're out, or visiting family, he'll use his cutlery if we have it with us and standard adult cutlery if we don't although it's a bit tricky as the nadles on the fork and spoon, and sometimes the tines on the fork, are too long for him to use easily.

nadles? Sorry handles. Typing not my strong point.

DS is almost 4 and uses whatever's clean in the drawer Grin

Our forks are massive for some reason but he seems to manage just fine.

While we're on the subject can I pick people's brains about plate sizes - side plates/those rectangular ikea plates are starting to look a bit small but if I put a 4-year-old sized meal on an adult plate it would look ridiculous! What does everyone else use?

I put ds's dinner on our largish side plates. I need an intermediate size cutlery set, at age 5 we are inbetweenish.

DS2 (2.10) has recently rejected most of the lovely kiddie cutlery we have in favour of grown-up cutlery.

BertieBotts an old set I inherited from my granny has quite small main plates. Maybe keep an eye out in charity shops?

ds2 is 2.7yo and if I remember, he gets the slightly smaller dessert cutlery, but sometimes he sets the table and gets annoyed to see that his are not the same as everyone elses.

So more often than not, he uses full size cutlery and he insisted fairly early on that he got a full sized dinner plate too. And a real glass.

I think I might ditch my plastic plates and cups because nobody uses them any more!
