pooing in the bath aged 5.5?

Any thoughts? DS2 keeps accidentally pooing in the bath. He is adamant he has no sensations of needing to go and the first he knows is when it appears. Gross, I know - sorry. He was quite a challenge to potty train, kept on missing the loo etc. He's also hypermobile; I am wondering if that could be significant in anyway (poor muscle control?? Clutching at straws!). Obviously the short-term solution is to stick to showers, but I'd like the poor child to be able to enjoy a bath occasionally! I'm sure it's not behavioural. Has anybody else had a child do this?

Is he normally constipated do you know? (A constipated child can poop every day, but it will be hard). He may have something called encopresis which is more common in boys than girls. Have you considered talking to your dr.?

No, he isn't constipated. He poos once a day at least, and it's a normal, soft stool. I know about encopresis and it's definitely not that. I took him to the GP a few months ago but our normal one was away and we saw a nice woman who said she couldn't see or feel anything wrong and she was a bit baffled, and to come back in a few months if it wasn't better. Well it's not every bathtime but happens fairly regularly, unless he hops in and out without any playing or wallowing. I guess the warm water must just make something too relaxed. I try to get him to have a poo before he gets in the bath but even then a bit more seems to pop out! I suppose I should go back to the doctor, but I was keen to know if my son is the only 5 year old in the world who habitually poos in the bath! And maybe hoping someone else who has had similar experiences can shed more light than a doctor! My hunch is that it has to be related to hypermobility/hypotonia somehow, but any insights appreciated.

My DD used to poo in the bath, i think that the warm bath water just relaxes the muscles, but i think with her is that she wouldnt be able to stop going rather than not feeling, saying that i can't remember exactly. Im sure it is quite common and nothing to worry about.

I'm not exactly worried, in the sense of thinking there is anything really wrong with him, I just wish it would stop! Can I ask how old your DD was when she stopped?
